Eyüp

Sprawling Eyüp is known for the rebuilt 15th-century Eyüp Sultan Camii mosque, where a mausoleum is said to hold the remains of a friend of the prophet Muhammad. A cable car runs up Pierre Loti hill, whose summit offers panoramic views of the city and the Golden Horn, plus cafes and restaurants. A huge Muslim cemetery with the graves of Ottoman sultans, military commanders, and scholars covers the slopes.
