Ernestine Moten, daughter and youngest of twelve children of William Moten Isabella Caldwell, was born on January 27, 1916 in Allenville, Alabama. She was a school teacher. She married Fred Ross on March 18, 1941. Their daughter Diana Ross would become one of the greatest singers and songwriters of her generation.
