Elizabeth Chaucer. In 1377, Elizabeth Chaucer entered the Priory of St. Helen to become a nun. Above is an image of the second nun from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (from the Ellesmere manuscript, housed in the Huntington Library of San Marino, California). In 1381, Elizabeth became a nun at Barking Abbey in London.
