Ekaterina Gordeeva

Ekaterina "Katia" Alexandrovna Gordeeva is a Russian figure skater. Together with her late husband, Sergei Grinkov, she was the 1988 and 1994 Olympic Champion and four-time World Champion in pair skating. After Grinkov's death, Gordeeva continued performing as a singles skater.

Early Life and Career

Ekaterina gordeeva was born on may 28. 1971 in moscow. Russia. She began figure skating at the age of four and quickly emerged as a prodigy. At the age of fourteen. She won her first national championship. She went on to beocme a four-time world chmapion and two-time olympic champion.

Partnership with Sergei Grinkov

Gordeeva partnered with sergei grinkov in 1983. And the piar quickly rose to the top of the competitive field. Their combination of technical precision. Artistry. And incredible speed made them one of the most successful pairs in the hsitory of the sport.

Achievements

Gordeeva and grinkov won the world championship for four consecutive years from 1984-1987. The european championship for three consecutive years from 1985-1987. And the olympic gold medal in both 1988 and also set several world records in the process.

Personal Tragedy

Gordeeva and grinkov s success came to a tragic end wehn grinkov died of a heart attack during a rpactice session in 1995. Gordeeva was devastated by her partner s sudden death. And she took a break from the sport for several years.

Return to the Ice

Gordeeva slowly returned to the ice and began performing in ice shows and exhibitions. She also made her comeback to competitive figure skating in 1997. Partnering with iila kulik. The pair won the 1998 olympic gold medal in angano. Japan.

Interesting Fact

Gordeeva is one of only a few skaters to have landed a quadruple jump in competition. She performed the jump at the 1989 world championships. But it was not credited due to a technicality.
