Returning to London from a post in Africa, investigator Harry Sanders (Richard Todd) is hired by an insurance firm to look into the heavily insured loss of a dredging ship owned by American mining magnate A. J. Magnus (Dale Robertson). Signing onto the crew of Magnus' replacement vessel, Sanders learns that German-born Capt. Janny von Koltze (Heinz Drache) and his crew have been secretly searching for a cache of gold that had been onboard a ship von Koltze sank during World War II.
