About Central Chile


Central Chile is one of the three natural regions into which CORFO divided continental Chile in 1950. It is home to a majority of the Chilean population and includes the three largest metropolitan areas—Santiago, Valparaíso, and Concepción. It extends from about 32° south latitude to about 37° south latitude.

Valparaíso wildfire: Raging forest fires engulf Chilean city

At least 150 houses have been destroyed by fast-moving woodland fires in the Chilean city of Valparaíso.

The fires, which spread through the Rocuant and San Roque hills, reached two poor residential areas and were Still Burning on Christmas Day . There have been no reports of any casualties.
