About Cartago
Cartago is a Costa Rican city southeast of San José. It's known for La Negrita, the Black Madonna shrine at Our Lady of the Angels Basilica. Santiago Apostól Parish Ruins form a central park. On the outskirts, Lankester Botanical Garden displays around 1,000 orchid species. Farther southeast are the wildlife-rich rainforests of Tapantí Macizo de la Muerte National Park. The active Irazú Volcano lies to the northeast.
