Big Butterfly Count: good weather increases the species in the UK

Feb 16,2020 5:01 am

A once-in-a-decade mass emergence of the Thistle butterfly saw almost half a million in the UK.

results from the Big Butterfly Count took place over three weeks this Summer , showed the 30-times more Painted Ladies in England, arrived in the year 2018.

The Last major influx of migratory butterfly found in 2009, when 11 million Painted Ladies were seen.

The Count also found other common species had a good Summer , boosted by good Weather .

Peacock butterflies were seen among other species, a sharp increase in the numbers

Peacock butterflies had their best Summer for 2014, with a 235% increase in numbers seen, compared with the previous year, while marbled white saw a 264%.

the admirals were up 138%, gatekeepers to 95%, and there was a 64% of the sightings of six-spot burnet moth, one of the two day-flying moths increase in counted in the survey.

And the struggling Small Tortoiseshell was spotted on her best result in 2014, with around 70,000, while in this Summer .

Dr. Zoe Randle, a surveys officer at Butterfly Conservation , said The High numbers were not as significant, because the butterflies are "vital food" for other animals, such as birds, hedgehogs and dragonflies.

she added that "the clouds of Painted Ladies " that were seen were in this Summer , - 500,000 in only three weeks - "fantastic news".

The Painted Lady was spotted butterfly in the whole of the UK

experts are still worried about The Butterfly , and have proposed, could be Climate Change , the impact on your assets.

Butterfly Conservation , Richard Fox , said: "Last year, the Small Tortoiseshell is experiencing its worst Summer in the history of the Big Butterfly Count, so to see his numbers to jump by 167% this year is a big relief "

He added that the results showed that the species that performed far better in Scotland and Northern Ireland than in England and Wales .

The marbled white saw a 264% increase in this Summer

"We are still trying to determine what is behind the long term decline of the Small Tortoiseshell and, while it is good news that The Butterfly fared better, in this Summer , the poor results in the South of England, in particular, suggest that Climate Change may have more influence on these species than we previously realized. "

Mr Fox adds: "The Painted Lady stolen obviously, The Show this Summer , taking The Top spot in England, Wales , Scotland and Northern Ireland , but 2019 is also The Most successful have been the Big Butterfly Count in its 10-year history, with more participants, and more will be transmitted than ever before.
