For The Most hyped new acts that played your Song on national radio is a huge business. These slots are seen as the premium cultural Real Estate .

So for a Black Midi to be a letter to the "fill free 10 Minutes , whatever you are feeling fancy" in front of the drivetime message like a strange turning point.

The experiment were joyful young guitar-slingers made the luxury of 6 music DJ Steve Lamacq in June, to the release of their Mercury-nominated and divisive debut album hit home.

The 43-minute LP consists of tracks born out of long, improvised Jam Sessions , where you ride The Waves of repetition, until you could see something similar to the musical shore.

While the prospect of improvising million listeners would give your average new indie band heart-pounding, front-man Georgy Greep says that you are more comfortable wigging out on air, as plagued by the Protocol of the plays the three-minute pop songs.

'It's kind of stupid, really,"

"It's pretty silly how people music break a lot of the time ', it must be so for a long time after whatever'," he tells the BBC.

"Because, if you listen to an album, even if many of the songs are separated, you only have to hear a Song , you know?

"If you think an album you like, you think you are Song for Song But it's just a thing.

"So the politics of it, the silly it kind of is, really. "

"things like [6-music-appearance] is pretty fun to do", Greep goes on. "And the pressure that it is live on the radio, very cool, I think.

"When we started The Album , what to do, we tried it as a separate thing, as the songs are not live, to try making it a game to replicate.

"Only two things both have their own advantages and disadvantages, and people can like the new album and the live show to compare without. "

Black Midi ' s Wild and eclectic debut, which was described by critics as everything from exciting to frustrating.

Greep says that you care for the Marmite band of the moment, loved and loathed in equal measure.

"That's never a Bad Sign ," he laughs. "At least, that kind of means passion or whatever. There is nothing worse than having something mediocre.

"Even if something is terrible, at least there is something to talk about there. "

The Mercury Prize panel after they called on the 12-strong list for Thursday the prestigious annual album award fall into the former camp.

they are known for their tilt collective cap to a jazz act (Seed-Ensemble this year), But Black Midi 's often uncategorisable sound and Greep's off-kilter vocals make another left field selection.

Greep (with the hat) says that the title of The Band , The Album hit home "is a fictitious location,"

"Obviously, these people have to be those, known from the Brit school, because they are middle-of-the-road music," claims Greep. "So, you're inevitable to, the name said. to have

"But there are a lot of people, the producers, and the things that you would expect never, went, to go to the fact to The School , just as it is completely false stereotype of it.
