About BBC Proms 2014

BBC Proms, the largest classical music festival in the world, opens its 2014 event at the Royal Albert Hall with Elgar's `The Kingdom', with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. From there global classical music is celebrated, as ten international ensembles appear for the first time at the festival, including orchestras from China, Greece, Iceland, Lapland, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea and Turkey. Renowned orchestras making return appearances include the Berliner Philharmoniker with Sir Simon Rattle, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra with Riccardo Chailly, the Cleveland Orchestra with Franz Welser-Möst, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra with Iván Fischer. And to commemorate 150 years since the birth of Richard Strauss, three of his best-known operas - `Der Rosenkavalier', `Salome' and `Elektra' - are performed at the Proms. Highlights from the season air across BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four and Cbeebies throughout the summer. …  MORE
