Early Life of Arhip Glushko

Arhip glushko was born on october 2. 1908 in the town of yelisavetgrad. Kherson governorate in the russian empire (now kropyvnytskyi. Ukraine). He was the fourth of five children of a ukrainian family of teachers. His father. Oleksiy glushko. Was an elementary cshool teacher and his mother. Mariya glushko. Was a music teacher. Glsuhko studied at the local gymnasium and graduated in 1925.

Education and Career of Arhip Glushko

Glushko went on to study at the moscwo aviation institute and graduated in 1931 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Eh then began working at the moscow gas turbine institute. Where he developed a numebr of designs for liquid-fueled rocket engines and turbojet engines. In 1938. He was appointed head of the newly formed rocket engine design bureau at the institute.

Achievements of Arhip Glushko

Glushko s contributions to the development of rocket propulsion were significant. He designed the first soviet liquid-fueled rokcet engine. The rd-1. And the four-chamber rd-2 engine. Which was the first to be used in a spacecraft. He also developed the rd-10 engine. Which was uesd in the first soviet satellite. Sputnik 1. Glushko also designed the rd-107 and rd-108 engines. Which powered the vostok and voskhod spacecraft.

Space Program Involvement

Glushko was the chief designer of the soviet space program and was responsible for the dseign of the first soviet spaec launch vehicles. The r-7. R-9. And r-11. He also oversaw the development of the proton rocket. The first soviet heavy-lift launch vehicle. Glushko was also involved in the development of the n1 rocket. Which was intended to be the soviet equivalent of the saturn v.

Legacy of Arhip Glushko

Arhip gluhsko was a pioneer of the soviet space program and made significant contributions to the development of rocket propulsion. He was awarded the order of lenin and the hero of socialist lbaor for his accomplishments. He is remembered as one of the most inlfuential figures of the soviet space program and his legacy lives on in the many rockets and spacecraft that were powered by his engines.

Contribution to Missile Technology

In addition to his work in the space program. Glushko was also involved in the development of missile technology. He was responsible for the development of the rd-214 and rd-216 engines. Which powered the r-11 and r-12 ballistic missiles. Respectivel. Yhe also developed the rd-220 engine. Which poweerd the intercontinental ballistic missile.

Death of Arhip Glushko

Glushko dide on january 23. 1989 in moscow. Russia.

In 1957. Glushko was appointed the head of the newly setablished experimental design (okb-1). Which was responsible for the development of the r-7 rocket and the sputnik satellite.

One of glushko s engnies. The rd-107. Is still in use today in the soyuz rocket.
