AMELIA FRANCES CHICHELEY BATTEN, nee PLOWDEN, was born in India, on the 27th October 1811, the daughter of Trevor Plowden (1784-1856) and Frances Lina Erskine, whose marriage had taken place in Calcutta in 1808. Trevor came from a distinguished British family, with many eminent ancestors.
