Alexander Yegorovich Timashev was Adjutant General, Cavalry General; in 1856–1861 – Chief of Staff of the Gendarme Corps and Manager of the Third Section of His Imperial Majesty's Own Chancellery; in 1867–1868 – Minister of Posts and Telegraphs; in 1868–1878 – Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Empire.
