Albert Frisch Life story
Vintage photos offer a glimpse of the Upper Amazon 150 years ago
have sold A Number of images of the German photographer Albert Frisch at an auction in Sotheby's in New York .
The images were believed to be More Than 150 years ago during an expedition to Brazil in the Upper Amazon, and are the earliest photo-graphic of the surface record. Frisch's images also capture the nature and the natives, among other things, the Ticuna, Miranha, and Caixana tribes.
The Collection includes 98-Albumin-prints that were first published in 1869, Verlag von Georg Leuzinger.
Fresh photography in 1863, and moved to Rio de Janeiro in The Following year, where he began work for Leuzinger. He was the one to produce in the order of Fresh photos of the undisturbed Amazon.
Freshly set-off in November, 1867, with an area of almost 1,000 miles by foot or by boat over the next five months. He produced More Than 120 glass-plate negative using the wet collodion process, which required him to travel with a portable laboratory.
The Process meant that the photographic plates had to be prepared shortly before they were exposed in the camera with the development, immediately, while they are still wet.
Many of the images are layered, in fact, or composite negative, the photographed Fresh often his models and backgrounds separately to give the paintings a sculptural feel.
Fresh photographic career lasted only a few years, but his prints are in A Number of collections around The World .
