My money: "I'm exactly 1000 pounds lighter'

Feb 16,2020 7:41 am

My money is to look for a new series on how people spend their money - and to make the sometimes difficult decisions that you have. Here, Angela Jansen from South-London records of your expenses over a week and share tips to save money.

We are in search of more people to what you spend your money. If you are interested, please E-Mail or get In Touch via our, or if you don't live in the UK, then please come to our, and we will contact the target to you.

Angela is 31, and works in Westminster as a civil servant after moving to the UK from Canada nine years ago. You power in the Moment, £53,000 a year, but their role has recently been extended and The Unit it creates has grown significantly, so it is also a temporary duties may receive compensation in the amount of £10,000 Per year. She lives in South London , and has a roommate, her cat Hunter.

Angela s week: Lounging in the bed, a lot of Netflix, and a chorizo omelet

I have The Day off, which is very unusual. I usually only take the time to travel, but I have a few days of vacation I have to have until the end of the year, so I booked myself a Long Weekend . I lounge in bed and make me a Cup of tea and my favorite Breakfast , a toasted bagel with Cream Cheese and Smoked Salmon (£1. 47 Per portion).

After Breakfast I head out to Asda to pick up a few bits. I don't usually buy in Asda, but they have a really great skincare range and I'm low on my daily moisturizer (£10). I also have a couple of things for my charity-Christmas Box every year, I fill a shoebox full of toys and supplies for a child in need. Last year I made a Box for a boy, and this year I'm doing one for a girl, so that I can pick up hair ties, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and a stuffed animal (£9. 97).

lunch leftover veggie stir-fry (£1. 35. - Per serving), I never get tired of. I spend the afternoon doing some life-admin and my meal prep for the week. I used to buy my lunch at Work almost Every Day , but was spending Between £6-£8 Per day, which was simply not sustainable. Now I have all my meal prep at the beginning of the week and it saves me so much money! I'm making three large salads (£1. 90 Per serving) and the teriyaki Salmon with rice and spicy Szechuan green Beans (£3. 03 Per portion). The Beans are so delicious, that I would be happy to eat them, but I tend to pair it with a protein.

I dig Beans in my Salmon and green, and spend the rest of the evening relaxed on the sofa and catch up on my Netflix shows.

expenditure: £19. 97

I'm back at Work today, so after my usual Cup of coffee and a bagel with Smoked Salmon , I head to Westminster. I live in Zone 6 in South London , I commute an hour, but I comfort me to know that many people, commuting to The Tube for Another hour. I pay with my monthly railcard and make a mental note, renew the railcard, as it expires soon.

As I have been out of The Office for a few days, I spend The Morning of my team brings, and sorting out my E-Mails. Turns out, things were pretty busy while I was away, so there's a lot. I can't make it, pop down to The Gym for a quick workout at lunch - we are a Fitness Studio in The Basement of our house, and I pay £22 Per month for the access.

Once I'm back at my Desk, I eat one of my salads, and spend the rest of the afternoon deep in spreadsheets. The thought of working with spreadsheets is enough to send some people to the mountains, but I really love it.

After Work , I head over to catch up with a friend. She has offered to make dinner, so I'll buy us dessert, on the way, this is a massive donut (£4. 50). To say she messaged me, she got a job offer earlier That Day , so I buy a bottle of wine to celebrate (£7. 70).

We spend the rest of the evening, eat delicious food, drink wine and chat. I Am very grateful that she has offered To Let me stay for The Night , because it means that I don't have to do the drive Home !

expenditure: £12. 20

I Get In to Work earlier than usual, because the commute from My Friend , the apartment is only a half an hour, that's a win! I'll add a banana (50p), my packet of porridge, which I keep in my drawer for a busy morning (20p).

The Day is incredibly busy with several large periods and a half a dozen sessions. I manage to pull in a half-hour break to have lunch with a former colleague - we try to catch them once every few months. She updates me about her life, while I prepared to eat one of my meal-salads (he has a different dressing today, so I get bored), yogurt and fruit.

I hurry out of the door at the end of The Day , in order to make it To My HIIT class On Time . I use class pass, it costs me £35 a month and gives me access to hundreds of studios in London. I love it, but if you Miss A class, you have to pay a penalty of £15, do I hate. I manage to save with four minutes, which is just enough time to change for me, before The Class starts.

After class I take The Train Home , have my meal prepared Salmon and Beans for dinner, and do chores around the apartment until it's time for bed.

expenditure: 50p

I Wake up and realize that it's payday, which is always exciting! On the way into Work , I do my personal banking. I have several savings accounts for different goals, such as travel, gifts and long-term savings. I'm trying To My money market account nickname on my mobile banking app, so I have less to dip into it for other things. I also pay for a new month-to-month travelcard, it costs a whopping £246.

the Work is really busy again, and I eat my last salad at my Desk Between phone conferences and meetings. Before I knew it, The Day is over and it is time to head Home . I don't know where The Day went!

I'm making fish and chips for dinner (£1. 25 Per serving) and I spend my evening on Skype with My Uncle who lives in Canada. We speak at least once in two weeks and it is always great to speak with him and hear about everything Home .

expenditure: £246

I let myself sleep in This Morning as I'm of Work at Home . Most of my team is working from Home today, and I'm not going twice in the next week, so I feel guilty about it.

Today is The Day , The Money for my mortgage and my bills from my account, so I'm not exactly 1000 pounds lighter, but that covers my mortgage, utilities and council tax. It is reasonable, for London, And One of the advantages of living a bit further out, but still a lot of money.

I'm working most of The Day , but you take a break to give me a chorizo omelet for lunch (£1. 15 Per portion). I also manage to go for a walk, because otherwise my step count would be frighteningly low for The Day .

My evening is a birthday card for a friend, and snuggled with Hunter spent, while binge-watching YouTube.

expenditure: £1,000

I Wake up early to do my shopping for the upcoming week. I know the rest of my weekend is going to be busy, so I want to go to the big grocery store, while I have some time. I spend £25. 47 back pay for the ingredients for my weekly meal prep, and Another £10 on a pot of soup for a friend (me when I see her).

I take everything Home and have just enough time to grab the food in front of one of my best friends. I make it in the American style pancakes with strawberries, bananas and Maple Syrup for Breakfast (£1. 33 Per serving), which we eat while catching up on life. After Breakfast , you insisted to go for a walk, despite the fact that it is pouring outside, and we are both wet.

After our walk she goes Home and I Am in Thai-pumpkin-soup for lunch (72p Per portion). I had A Pumpkin that I didn't want to waste it, so I thought I would try a new recipe. It is pretty good, and I have enough for at least five more meals.

in the evening, I travel to London for a friend's birthday party. I'll carry a bottle of prosecco out of the closet, to The Party (as free as it was A Gift to me) and give her my self-made birthday card, which I think, like you! I get to catch up with a lot of friends, which I have not seen in a while and have a great time.
