617 Patroclus, provisional designation 1906 VY is a binary Jupiter trojan approximately 140 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 17 October 1906, by astronomer August Kopff at the Heidelberg Observatory in Germany. The asteroid was named after Patroclus from Greek mythology.
