HS2: UK in talks with China about the construction of high-speed line
Britain is in talks with China on the disclosure of Beijing state-owned railway builder, a role in the construction of the HS2 high-speed rail line.
China's state-owned railway company said The Line could be build in only five years, and at a much lower cost,
government officials said the "preliminary discussions" had taken place, but no "concrete commitments" have been made.
It Comes after Boris Johnson This Week .
This was despite an official warning of cost over £100bn can make, against a budget of £62bn.
Under current plans, the last piece of The Line is not due to be completed until the year 2040 - although Mr Johnson has said he wants to be brought forward to 2035.
- However, building magazine reported that China had written Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) to HS2 Ltd chief executive last month, saying it could build The Line through The Middle of the decade, for a significantly lower price.
Every movement to give Beijing a further role in the UK's infrastructure would almost certainly be controversial, after Mr Johnson allegedly incurred the wrath of the US President, Donald Trump - as well as upsetting, a lot of Tory MPs with his decision to allow tech giant Huawei to supply equipment for the 5G mobile network.
The CRCC letter which explains all: "We are confident that we offer costs significantly lower than the forecasts that we have seen. can
"The benefits are too great, in our opinion, to dismiss too large, on the basis that it will overcome the obstacles.
"you will find that the Chinese way is to search for solutions to obstacles and difficulties. "
CRCC has become China's transportation system, most of the buildings of the country's 15,500-mile high-speed network
However, the British were skeptical that it could work in the same way in a democracy with property rights, protected landscapes and powerful lobby groups.
supporters of HS2 say it will improve transport times, increase capacity, create jobs, and the balance of the British economy.
Once it is built, will travel shorter. London to Birmingham travel to be cut-time of one hour, 21 minutes, 52 minutes, according to the Ministry of transport.
And while it is built, it is expected to create thousands of jobs and provide an incentive for Economic Growth .
A Department for Transport official said: "The DfT is always interested to learn to consider the experiences of other approaches that offer value for taxpayers' money. "
