The Plaza Mayor, also known as Plaza de Armas, is home to the 17th-century Catedral de Ayacucho, with its gold-leaf altarpieces. The city is also known for its folk handicrafts, including intricate wooden dioramas called "retablos," and lively Easter Week celebrations.
