Testaccio

Dynamic, edgy Testaccio is built around Monte dei Cocci, a huge mound of discarded ancient Roman amphorae, or jars. Caves once dug into the mound for storage now host raucous bars and discos, plus trattorias ranging from old-guard to innovative. The offal on many menus recalls the Testaccio slaughterhouse, now the MACRO modern art museum. Mercato Testaccio is a vibrant stop for fresh produce and street food.
