Windrush: government defends Jamaica deportation flight

Jun 2,2023 5:20 pm

Home Secretary Priti Patel has defended plans to deport 50 individuals, Jamaica, on Tuesday, after More Than 170 deputies called to The Flight to cancel.

She Said , had been convicted the fugitive "serious crime" carrying out sentences of More Than one year.

she was bound to deport by the legislation, She Said .

However, shadow home secretary, Diane Abbott said The Move was unfair, as some had come to the UK as children and "have no memory" of the country of their birth.

It Comes after a leaked draft of the Windrush-scandal-the Report said the government should consider to quit the born on the deportation of foreign offenders came to the UK as children.

Before The Flight on Tuesday the protests against the deportation of the evening took place on Monday outside Downing Street.

Meanwhile, a legal challenge was launched before The Flight from a company that was rejected by its potential passengers by The High Court.

Duncan Lewis lawyers had argued that The Flight , passengers, people, the "potential victims of trafficking in persons, well-groomed, such as children from drug-gangs to run county lines, networks, and later continued in the Criminal Justice system as a serious criminal offender."

The Flight from the UK to Kingston is due to leave by the 11. Of February, and is expected to be around A Man who came to Britain at the age of five.

In The House of Commons, Labour shadow Minister of the interior, Ms Abbott said there was "widespread concern", said the deportation Flight "presents a double danger, because the people who have already met, a suitable punishment for your crimes."

she added: "Many of the proposed deportees came Here as children and have no memory of Jamaica. "

Ms Patel said, every man had been accused on the run, a "serious criminal offence and received a custodial sentence of 12 months or more".

Therefore, under legislation introduced that a deportation order must be made by a Labour government in 2007, She Said ,"".

There were cries of "shame", as Mrs Patel left The Chamber , while the Labour MP David Lammy is an urgent question on the subject.

'I have No One in Jamaica' - protests against the deportations continued in London on Tuesday night

a father of five, Howard Ormsby is among those who, because of the deportation on Tuesday.

He was sent to prison for 18 months after he was convicted of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and he was released in December.

"I came Here at the age of 15 with my older sister, and I have 18 years of My Life ," says the 32-year-old said in an interview with the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire map from a detention centre in Harmondsworth, near London Heathrow.

"I've never tried to deny the fact that I made a mistake, but everyone has the chance to right your wrong.

"I've got my whole family is Here - I have No One in Jamaica. "

he said he believed that if he is sent to Jamaica, he would be killed because of gang violence there.

Tajay Thompson is also facing deportation to Jamaica. He served half of a 15-month rate in 2015, after he was convicted of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply on July 17.

"I think I was born Here . Jamaica is not My Country ," said Mr Thompson said, adding that he had no relations in The Caribbean nation, which he only visited twice since he has been to the UK at the age of five.

"It's not like I'm a rapist or a murderer, I made a mistake when I was 17 and now effects my whole. "

The 23-year-old, who lives in South London , adding that he was cared for in a gang as a teenager.

Junior Home Office minister, Kevin Foster replied for the government, saying deportations were issued "serious and persistent" foreign offenders, whether they were born in Jamaica, the United States or elsewhere.

"It is a crime that counts, not the nationality," he said.

He said those who were on The Flight , were sentenced to a total of More Than 300 years in prison and convicted of crimes were, including robbery, rape of a child, serious drug offences, weapons offences and crimes of violence.

There are no British nationals were on The Flight , he said, and everyone was an adult.

But Mr Lammy criticized the "tone" struck by Mr Foster in his remarks, saying it was less than two years, there was a consensus in The House of Commons about the unacceptable treatment of The Descendants of the Windrush generation.

He accused the Minister of "suppression" of a Report into The Scandal , and the "non-compliance with the contribution of the West-Indian, Caribbean and black people in This Country ," he asked, when "the black lives matter Once Again ".

The Windrush scandal seen that many of those who had come, in The Caribbean countries, between 1958 and 1971, imprisoned, or deported, although he has The Right To Live in the UK for decades.

The Fallout prompted criticism of the government of the "Hostile Environment " approach to immigration and led to the resignation of Amber Rudd , Minister of the interior in the year 2018.

reply to queries on the date of the publication of the Windrush-Report - known as the Teach Check on - Mr. Foster said, it was an independent assessment, and the Minister could not compel it to be produced by a certain date.

Earlier, More Than 170 cross-party MPs said in a letter that they are "serious concerns" about the Home Office , the deportation of the plan and urged the government to cancel all further deportations until the Windrush Report was published.

Labour MP Nadia Whittome, who organized The Letter , said the government "risks repeating the mistakes of the Windrush scandal, unless it breaks this Flight ".
