Coronavirus: the Ofcom rules on Eamonn Holmes and David Icke comments

Nov 15,2023 8:51 am

Icke used to be a sports presenter, while Holmes is a host on ITV's This Morning

broadcasting watchdog Ofcom has "issued guidance" on ITV following Eamonn Holmes ' comments about the 5G-technology-and coronavirus This Morning .

The regulatory authority, said Holmes' comments were "ambiguous" and "ill-judged".

Ofcom said that it "risked undermining viewers" trust in the guidance of public authorities and scientific knowledge".

The regulator also has a local TV channel London determined to Live in violation of the standards for an interview it broadcast with David Icke about coronavirus.

a conspiracy theorist, Icke, it said, had "expressed views that had the potential for significant damage for the spectators in London during the pandemic".

On April 13, in a segment This Morning is the consumer editor, Alice Beer , Holmes doubt that media had debunked The Myth that 5G causes of coronavirus.

Beer, formerly presenter of The Bbc 's Watchdog programme, said that the theory, which has led to masts Mobile Phone , you will not be burned down or vandalized," was not true and incredibly stupid".

"I totally agree with everything you say," said Holmes. "But what I do not accept the mainstream media is immediately struck, as not true, if you don't know it is true.

"no one should attack or hurt or anything like that, but it is very easy to say it is true because it fits the government narrative," he continued.

Holmes was widely criticised for his comments in which He Said she was "incorrectly interpreted" on The Following day program.

"For the avoidance of doubt, I want to make it absolutely clear, There is no scientific evidence to substantiate all these 5G theories," he continued.

Ofcom said that it had this on-air statement in the invoice, together with the "context" of beer had been provided, before the decision for the topic of leadership to ITV "and his moderators".

"In our view, Eamonn Holmes ' ambiguous comments were ill-judged and risks undermining audience, "trust in the guidance of public authorities and scientific findings," it said.

"His statements were very sensitive with regard to the recent attacks on phone masts in the UK, caused by Conspiracy Theories linking 5G-technology and virus.

"the stations have to discuss editorial freedom, and the challenge, the approach by the authorities to a serious Public Health crisis, such as the Corona Virus," it continued.

"However, the discussions about unproven claims and theories that could be made to undermine the spectator's trust in official information about the Public Health , must ensure that, in a context that Protected the spectators. "

Ofcom FTA, owners of the London-based TV channel to London said Live, had broken broadcasting rules by airing an interview with former footballer and TV presenter Icke.

He Said in The Interview , recorded on March 18, and broadcast on London Live on 8. April", contain potentially harmful content over and above the Corona-Virus-pandemic".

not to mention While, 5G with name, Icke referred to "electro-magnetic, technically generated soup of radiation toxicity", that he had claimed, damaged, old people, the immune system.

He also claimed that the official health advice aimed at reducing the spread of The Virus , the ambitions of a secret "cult have been implemented more", rather than for the protection of Public Health .

Ofcom said it was "particularly affected" by Icke "the doubts regarding the motives for the official medical advice for the protection of The Public against The Virus ".

"These claims went largely unchallenged, while the 80-minute interview were made, and without the support of a scientific or other evidence. "

of The London Live programme was produced by a London-based independent company.

London Live is owned by The Russian businessman Evgeny Lebedev , who is also owner of the Evening Standard and Independent Newspapers.

The channel is required to broadcast a summary of Ofcom 's findings, and may be supervision, with additional sanctions imposed by the media.

Unfounded theories

Conspiracy Theories linking 5G signals to the Corona-Virus-pandemic is more widespread, although There is no evidence that cell phone signals a health risk.

Fact -checking charity Full Fact .

There are dozens of reported attacks on Telecom equipment in the last few weeks

A incorrectly 5G suggests suppresses the immune system, the claims of The Other , incorrectly, that The Virus is somehow communicating over The Network , the radio waves, and the victims choose, the acceleration of their dissemination.

While 5G is not used with different frequencies to its predecessors, it is important to recognize that the area is involved, even "ionizing", and it is energy lacks sufficient.

Earlier this year, researchers from The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection.

While it is recommended, somewhat closer limits for the transfer of functions of the Mobile Phone itself to minimize any chance of damage through human tissue is being heated, his crucial insight was that There was no evidence that either 5G networks, or older systems could be the cause of cancer or other types of the disease.

The Second theory seems to be based on The Work of a Nobel prize-winning biologist, who suggested that bacteria could radio waves to generate.

But this remains a controversial idea. In any case, Covid-19 is a virus rather than a bacterium.

There is another big Problem with these two theories. Coronavirus spreads in British cities, in which the 5G has yet to be used, and to adopt in countries such as Japan and Iran, the still, the technology.
