Tim Burgess on the power of listening to the music of "together, apart'

Nov 5,2023 7:01 am

Tim Burgess : Solo Star , charlatan, and You will hear your hosts for the evening -

the cocks are crowing and the horses clip-rattling in earshot of Tim Burgess ' Norfolk isolation bunker.

The Quiet , rural home, which he shares with his young son, is a world away from The Rock 'n' roll carnage of his Los Angeles days. It is precisely here, however, that the 52-year-old leads The Resistance against the blocking of the blues, with its popular online album, love-ins.

Or, as Tim puts it, rather succinctly, "We hear on The Albums , apart."

"The idea is so simple, but it works on so many levels," he says.

The opening Two Weeks of Tim's Twitter-Listening-Party - celebrate-classic-to have albums and future favorites seems to be hit stranded a chord with many people on Social Media , thanks to the insights of many of The Star 's musical friends, including The Chemical Brothers.

And for The Second Saturday in the indoor range in a row, the twice-nightly virtual station "at the top of the trending charts, as he urged his followers to join in and former Oasis guitarist Paul "Bonehead' Arthurs, for a socially distanced "Deep Dive " into The Band 's best-selling 1995 LP, What's The Story (Morning Glory ? ).

"I wanted to Do Something I thought would be helpful, or Make Me feel a little bit helpful," says Tim, who unfortunately lost recently his father.

"I knew it would connect with people, as I have done with The Charlatans events.

"But I thought only if I were also some of The People I know, in - Like Bonehead, or Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand , or horseback riding, or Dave Rowntree of Blur, is Then sorted in The First week!"

"I thought it could be great," he adds.

Now, with the growing faster than the queue outside the downtown supermarket, we asked his host about the importance of the human connection through the music in these troubled times, and the release of his fifth solo album, I Like the New sky.

As the insulation is So Far Tim go?

I'm pretty good with it. Or maybe even used to it. But there's something about the proximity to people, which I miss.

I am a writer who writes At Home , but I am also a front man in a band, and I Like to connect with people.

Describe your typical listening party set up for us. There is to eat? Alcohol? What is with the dancing?

It was danced in the Dust up [Chemical Brothers' debut] Exit Planet. I would be A Fool !

I have no time to eat or to drink. I get very nervous before it starts. All I have to do is press The Button and You write a couple of tweets, but it is the responsibility.

I always have some ready to say things, because I always want to answer as many people back as possible.

So, You know, it is my full-time job!

It really is. What was the most important Thing to be away from it Until Now ?

people say that You heard an album for the ages, in its entirety, and I think that it is an amazing Thing that we now have time to do that.

although You can't see it - Unless your family can do it, You can feel that people are there because You can see and write stuff.

Everyone had something to say amazing and it is so good that it will come great new bands [The Factorial, Fontaines, D. C, Pip Blom ] and contribute.

The Morning Glory listening party threw up memories of You guys, the support from Oasis in Knebworth 1996. This time was obviously marred by the death of [the late charlatans Keyboard Player Rob Collins . How do You remember the gig?

I know it's not really very much, to be honest. I just didn't know that we can play well again.

Rob was our Number One musician in The Band , and probably The Best singer. I always had to look to him to be able to know that I was singing In Tune , and he was not there, so it was really difficult.

His replacement, The Day , Martin Duffy [of Primal Scream ], is a maestro.

We came off The Stage , and me and [guitarist] thought Mark Collins , both of You , we could not do it again.

But time passes, and You just have to dig deep and The Friends around feel to You , and move You into a new realm really.

You have the feeling that now is The Time to evaluate for all of the re-what is important?

Without a doubt. The People are obviously learning that You keep a few things for granted. And realized that people are really important.

I love it Out Here in The Quiet , but I also love to go in The City . I get the stream of Other People , and I think we have missed.

I have a six-year-old, as well, that I now, 24 hours A Day and he wants my attention all The Time . You begin to realize how important school is.

(L-R) Mark Collins ; Tim Burgess , Rob Collins , Jon Brookes , Martin Blunt of The Charlatans at the Reading Festival in 1992,

are You in search of home-schooling?

I'm not trying to drill in science and mathematics in him, but I'm talking to him about volcanoes and coronavirus, and The Environment . But try to make him a bit of spelling and reading is really difficult!

I think everyone needs this kind of Thing for granted, You know, push You in the school...

when they lifted the lockdown restrictions-hopefully, can You see more, hear from the parties?

I can see how they are on lockdown. I only see it getting bigger and bigger.

The Cult want to make and The Flaming Lips happened.

It is easy to have your own Thing now. I think that people will copy... I also have people offer advice on how I should give them the film, or make it more effective. But You know what? I'm just saying, 'I Like You The Way You are'.

in the Next month You will be able to, as a host for your new solo album. What was it Like to write alone on your own for the First Time ?

I write alone a lot, but this is The First record that I ever thought, 'Well, it's about Tim Burgess album, I'm going to write to me and I'm going to spend some time where I don't do Anything Else , apart from to write this album. '

A lot of The Time , I'm going to be, Like , 'I've got a couple of songs, I think some sound very charlatans, some might not. "Or I'm going to write a book or do a couple of gigs or something Like that.

Everything is fragmented.

That was something I thought if I spent some time only to all of the songs on this album, it is a very focused Thing .

It has been described as a record About Love , anger and loss

It is all of these things really. Remember, it was my focus for a year, and happened a lot in 10 Minutes with me!

Everything in there, from looking for a few new friends that I communicated a lot of experience with already. To quarrel with people I would not want to see ever again.

And such is life.

how is it in sound-talk?

I wanted it to sound as natural as possible and for the melodies and the lyrics to kind of direct where the chords go.

I wrote everything on an Acoustic Guitar , but wanted everything in the recording of vocals and piano. No ballads, You know, driving piano. The Drums are really crazy, the kind of Ringo crazy.

In the Rockfield Studios near Monmouth, Wales] there is a sound of singing that I really wanted for this record. So I went there for the First Time in 25 years. I invited Mark Collins , and he slept and played in the same room as he did 25 years ago!

There are many reasons why we don't go to the Rockfield [for so long], but the main reason is that Rob Collins died in a car accident at the bottom of The Drive .

But Then , You know, life goes on, and I and Mark both talked about while we were shooting, and it was a Beautiful Thing .

I love the New sky is to move The Singer 's fifth solo album,

You have to their UK tour in October. Did You consider pulling back The Album release, as some artists have done?

no. I mean, I understand why obviously.

The live situation has nothing to do With Us , when It Comes to make decisions.

The crazy Thing is, we managed to get four shows in New York - we were supposed to do South by Southwest, but This Was cancelled after the - Then fly home The Day , because it was the Last Flight Back Home .

So it was pretty crazy. As it seems, it must have been years, in a utopian past.

But as far as The Album , I've already spoken about it to anyone around The World and said she is coming in may. So it just seems silly to change it now.

And it will also give people something to look forward to and we can have a listening party with him.
