Coronavirus: The NHS workers garbage bag to wear as protection

Jul 7,2023 3:30 am

to climb

As the number of deaths caused by coronavirus more, hospitals across the UK are working hard to provide more intensive care beds for those who are critically ill. In an interview with The Bbc , an intensive care doctor, and the crippling reality describes a lack of support and equipment faced by some employees of the health system in England.

have Multiple workers in the health service in England, told The Bbc of a lack of equipment in their hospitals. Warned against speaking to the media, they did not want to speak publicly. But, an intensive care doctor from The Midlands wanted to put On Record . The Bbc agreed to change their names to protect their identity.

Dr. Roberts describes in a hospital on the edge. Intensive care is already full of coronavirus (Covid-19) patients. All of the operations is not urgent, the cancer-clinics that have been canceled. There is a shortage of personnel, a lack of Critical Care beds, a shortage of basic antibiotics and ventilators.

All this, combined with the looming uncertainty of what the expected climax is estimated that the United Kingdom hit 14-15 April, that means hospital staff are already stretched a bit.

But, nothing Dr Roberts describes, is not as alarming as the fact that these medical professionals continue to care for critically ill patients for 13 Hours a day, recourse is made to the design of personal protective equipment (PPE) from clinical waste bags, plastic aprons and borrowed Ski Goggles .

Dr. Roberts, shown in the figure on The Left , tie a trash bag for the sides and the back of your colleagues to keep the head

While the audience is trying to have a social distance of two meters, many NHS staff are being asked to examine patients suspected of coronavirus at a distance of 20cm - Without The Right protection.

With potentially lethal effects, Dr. Roberts says that there are several departments in your hospital are now so fearful of what comes next, you started, money-hoarding PSA for yourself.

"It's about being pragmatic. The Nurses on the ITU (Intensive Treatment Unit) need you now. You are going to process, what is the risk of aerosol spread of The Virus . But you said that you wear normal theatre hats that have holes in them and offer no protection.

"It is wrong. And that is why we have bin bags and aprons, which are on our heads. "

The government has acknowledged the distribution problems, but said that a national supply team, supported by the German armed forces is now "to deliver round-the-clock" equipment.

Nhs England said More Than 1. April, but no mention of much-needed head protection and a long-sleeved coat.

Dr. Roberts says that her hospital has not received anything from the government, and what you need to do, is a cause for concern.

"That respiratory protection-masks, which we use at The Moment , before they were all relabelled with new best-to-end deadlines. Yesterday I found a on, with three stickers. The First said that the expiration in 2009. The Second label, the expiry in 2013. And The Third sticker on the top said, up to the year 2021. "

Public Health England has said, and as "safe for the use of NHS staff". But Dr. Roberts says she is not convinced.

The Department of Health and Social Care also said it was "in close collaboration with industry, the health sector, the social sector and the army... If the staff need to be more PSA there is a hotline in place."

He said his new leadership, the PSA has been In Line with World Health organization advice, "make sure that all doctors are aware of what they should wear".

vented Currently and Dr Roberts' care are your three colleagues, all of which tested positive for coronavirus. The a is an intensive care doctor working on a Covid community that, like Dr. Roberts, had access only to inadequate protection.

The Other two were both not work Covid municipalities and, therefore, were not wearing PPE. Given your symptoms, Dr. Roberts believes that both of them contracted The Virus while at work.

to visit even Though the colleagues, as all of The Other patients who are not relatives, are allowed anywhere within The Hospital .

"The hardest thing at The Moment , that is to say, families, you pull the care over The Phone . You tell them, their relatives dying or have died, but we can't let you come and see," says Dr. Roberts.

"Usually you can say to your relatives, the sick bed, "We will do what we can, but I know that, because at The Moment I can not still felt able to say.

"I can't necessarily give you The Best care, on a respirator, I can not be The Best care guarantee, because The Best nurses are four ways to be stretched. We run out of antibiotics, and I can't guarantee that all of the treatments that I know will help you. "

Nhs England says it has no records of how many medical professionals were admitted to hospital after contracting coronavirus at work.

Yet the two most affected countries in Europe. In Spain, emergency health Minister announced on 27 March that the 9.400 health care workers had tested positive, and in Italy, on 30 March, More Than 6,414 medical professionals have been reported, had been infected.

In the UK, several, the health of workers known to have died from the coronavirus, including Areema Nasreen, a Staff Nurse in the West Midlands , Thomas Harvey, a health assistant in East London , Prof Mohamed Sami Shousha in the centre of London, Dr Alfa Saadu in North London , Dr. Habib Zaidi in Southend, Dr. Adil El Tayar in west London, and Dr. Amged El-Hawrani in Leicester.

breaking point

on the Basis of extrapolations from Italy and Spain, Dr. Roberts says in the health sector, are bracing for The Peak to hit in less than Two Weeks .

"If the cases rise so quickly as in Spain and Italy, then quite frankly, We Are screwed. All of our surplus areas will soon be full.

"The anesthesia machine, we have designed for two to Three Hours at The Most , for four to Five Days straight. We Are already leaks and failures. "

Also, a short PSA, is an intensive care nurse in Spain wearing a bin-bag and a protective plastic mask, donated by a local company

Extra intensive-care beds, Set Up in several operating rooms and stations, have nearly doubled, and The Hospital capacity to support critically ill patients, especially those who can't breathe for themselves and on a ventilator.

But, due to the expansion of the intensive care unit, Dr. Roberts says that it is the nursing staff, who are disproportionately affected.

"intensive care nurses are well educated and usually provide care on a one-to-one to those who are critically ill. Your patients can sleep, but they have such a close relationship that you can describe every hair on a head of the patient.

"But now, with these extra beds, nurses are Under Pressure to look after up to four patients, while providing the same level of intensive care medicine. You are in tears and really struggling. You are The Most important part of The System , but that is where it is going to fall".

you Remain to describes Home

Outside In The Hospital Parking lot, Dr. Roberts, as they appeared a new temporary building in The Ambulance Bay with only one Purpose - to vet, all of the patients for the symptoms of the coronavirus before they are approved.

It is indicates by a physician, Dr. Roberts, it might. otherwise, in search of patients It describes the device as a "lie detector".

"It is really usual that people, about your symptoms to see only get. People stayed Home , but they come to A& E.

"So now, every single patient is initially in the Parking lot, to ensure that those with Covid symptoms in The Right part of The Hospital , and not all the others, such as those that have come to infect, with a broken arm. "

But for Dr. Roberts, it is not just those turning up at A& E, it is everyone.

"Most of The Hospital staff, we isolate ourselves, if We Are not at work, so that you are not Other People in danger.

"But The Most frustrating thing to see for us to the parks or Tesco's even busier than usual. Please stay At Home . "
