were extremists slaughtered In just 100 Days in 1994, approximately 800,000 People slaughtered by ethnic Hutu. They were for attacks on members of the minority Tutsi community, as well as their political opponents, irrespective of their ethnic origin.

"I was three years old, in 1994, and I was curious as to What Happened , the survivors of a similar age as me," says Chrystal . "What is the meaning of recovery from the Rwandan genocide look like now?"

Sit in on five sessions, led by Rwandan advisors, Chrystal heard many Stories of horror, of how the participants remembered the trauma that they had experienced as children. Many lost their Parents and siblings.

"As someone who lives with their own continuing Mental Health difficulties, which I have said are keeping tabs on the photography project was hard," She Said .

"I don't think I could be willing to listen for, how it was an influence - just Stories of terrible things that happened to The People . "

One of the hand-written notes captured Chrystal . The question: "What has helped you through difficult times?" The Answer , in Kinyarwanda is written: "It is because I forgave them, my Parents killed. "

your photography project with the title of Yours is Going to Be Healed, As Well, is financed by a scholarship from the Rebecca Vassie Memorial Award, and is in connection with Survivors Fund (Surf), the organization, the establishment of the Advisory.

"it occurred to me that One of the reasons why People believe, you can not talk about their experiences is that on a national level, The People say, "Tutsi" and "Hutu'," Chrystal says.

"The Narrative is:" We Are all in Rwanda " and "One Nation , One People ". "

Chrystal explained that another reason is that People feel inhibited in talking about your memories, because survivor and the offender returned to the same places after the genocide in their villages and communities.

"There are a lot of casualties on all sides... some of the Hutu can still make it to the extremist views, based on the ethnic gap. Some may want to ask for forgiveness. On both sides of The People are not clear who you can trust with your Stories . "

Jean-Marie Viany, in the district of Gatsibo, said Chrystal : "What Happened to me, [can help to] the other. "

Chrystal asked whether Rwanda would be a Problem if the accession of the Advisory groups.

"I asked, of the Surf if it will be problematic to turn that a Chinese-British person, and asked you to tell all these Stories about the worst things that ever happened.

"[they] said, actually, it is easier for me, not in Rwanda , because I Am clearly an outsider, and there is no danger that what they said would be shared, the community would have an impact in such a way as your daily life.

"It is a strange case, to speak that it is harder for you, within your own community, than it is to an outsider. "

One of the participants, which was together seen your Story Of patience*, 35, Below .

- portrait of patience

patience was nine years old when the genocide happened in 1994. Her father hid them along with her siblings, but she was the only One to survive. She says that she hears again and again, crying The Sound of them, as they were murdered, and the ideas of your body will not let you sleep.

"you have a lot Of Anger has," says Chrystal . "She has A House now. People say to her: "Why you don't want to Smile , you have a Very Nice house, why are you not happy?"

"She Said :" The Reason why I never Smile , I have a lot of things, think I'm getting to, so My House is a small thing, and not enough to Make Me Smile . '"

Rwanda 's capital, Kigali in the dusk

patience has stated that they have suspicions about the involvement of A Man in the village, in the murder of her father.

"you told a story about how This Man is walking around wearing her father's pants and shoes. Her father has been missing since the genocide, and nobody knows where his body is.

"you ask The Man : 'Where in The World did you get Those Shoes ?" and The Man would say: "your father must have left in The Church , before he is gone'.

"So you went to Church and asked: 'my dad left his shoes?" You said he was there at the time.

"she is convinced that This Man killed your father and took The Shoes from his body, and knows where he is buried, and not tell her.

"It's a feeling Of Anger . "

In the consultations, the nature of the psychiatric terminology heard in many other parts of The World not used.

"A lot of the symptoms that you describe can be very would be similar to what we classify as depression or PTSD.

"In a way, I thought The Way they talked about things, which was quite liberating. They would say things like: 'Who is responsible for your happiness, is it you or someone else?"

"they would not speak to The participant], as you want to be alone, if you are experiencing memories of the trauma, and they discussed, as they should, please contact a neighbor if you need.

"The discussion boiled down to the concepts of their trauma, rather than the clinical terminology. They talked about the same things, in relation to the actual Experience . "

Another participant, the met Chrystal and photographed, was Claudine*, 38 seen Below .

A portrait of Claudine

Claudine was 13 when she learned of the genocide. She has struggled with Mental Health difficulties, and had A Number of children.

"I visited her At Home , and I can't over emphasise her sweetness. She just had this gentleness to her, which is more what year can you expect from a 13-or 14 -. [It was] the kind of tenderness and vulnerability, where you just want to, what you can to show your love. "

After a previous suicide attempt, Claudine tries to rebuild her life with the advice of the group.

Chrystal -Claudine: "If you have not yet completed school, and are therefore not able to support themselves, there is layer upon layer of vulnerability.

"As I was said to visit at her home, she, she wanted me a photo of her with her son.

"I asked if This Was the only copy they had, and they said: 'Yes, Yes, it is A Gift ". I said that if this is the only copy you have, then you have to keep it.

"she had a generosity Of Spirit and innocence. "

Some of the participants in meetings, travelling long distances to participate in the counselling, Hiking up to five hours.

A Problem, the Surfing is trying to address is the child care for The Mothers who are forced to bring their babies and children.

"you have these little children listen to Stories about the rape for a few hours each week, and the can is not Good for you to be exposed to," says Chrystal .

But the parties involved feel the benefit of the advice, including patience, who said Chrystal , who, when she tells Her Story , she feels "happy and my heart feels Good ."

The Advisory group in Kibeho, grew from 20 to 40 People

Chrystal found that The Project impacted you personally.

"I have not stopped to think about all The People I met... they are incredible People . I still dream of Rwanda , and I suspect I will at some point. "
