Planned from the ground: Brasilia 60 in pictures
21. April 1960 by President Juscelino Kubitschek initiated the inauguration ceremony for Brazil's purpose built capital city of Brasilia - the exchange of Rio de Janeiro as the Federal capital and seat of government. The arch is planned to be typical of the city, built From Scratch on the desert-like Central plateau in the late 1950s. The Buildings , built to house the branches of the Brazilian government, as well as the residential blocks to house for those who represent in the capital, some of the best modernist design of the time. Almost all The Buildings were by Oscar Niemeyer , one of The Most innovative and daring architects of the last 60 years. Niemeyer, a disciple of Le Corbusier buildings of curves and surfaces lined up dreaming along a Central boulevard known as The Esplanade of ministries. Together with the city planner Lucio Costa and landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, Niemeyer designed and built The Core of Brasilia in just 41 months. The Project was very ambitious, but officially only Four Years after the work was started in the year 1956 and includes buildings such as The National Cathedral - a crown-shaped structure of glass suspended between concrete struts which sweep upwards and inwards, And Then in the sky. Rather than bleak and forbidding as the interior of the older cathedrals, flooded inside with light rooms. The magnificent curves of his full of character buildings, They belonged very much to Brazil, although They are designed in what was thought of as a "international" Style - brought a vitality and glamour, Modern design. Brasília is a country on the threshold of a new age, ready to take over The World . Widely regarded As One of the finest examples of modernist architecture in The World , today, this compelling modern city is a Unesco world heritage site.
