A Woman , her face protests against George Floyd ' s death

As protests rock the US After the death of the African-American George Floyd in police custody Kenyan journalist Larry Madowo writes covered by a Kenyan flag on the racism he has experienced in the country.

In my first week in New York City Last Summer , I was invited to dinner at a friend's penthouse on the wealthy Upper West Side.

I took a few fruits for her and came into her house with a Plastic Bag to wear.

The Front Desk sent me through an open courtyard to the rear of The Building , past residents, garbage bags and in an amazingly dirty Elevator.

When I top, my host opened The Door , humiliated, all the color completely from her face.

"thought My racist bouncers, you're a delivery guy, and made you use the lift," she said, as she apologized.

I have worked in the complex racial hierarchy of South Africa and the United Kingdom, and traveled around The World , but it didn't hurt that an American, butler knew that reaches White People like my girlfriend and your husband, you could have a Black Dinner Guest .

The early micro-aggression warned me that America is The Land of opportunity for many, but it would still be the color of my skin to reduce me and Find Me unworthy.

It didn't matter that I negotiate from a Black -majority African nation, people who look like they have me here to, for your humanity with a system that is constantly alienated, erased and punished you.

This Man painted a portrait of George Floyd tribute

In Kenya to pay tribute to him, I could disappear in The Crowd , but In America I always have a target on my back for Black .

according to a Harvard-educated Black Man ask to follow her, Parking rules, and leash with your dog, a white Police Officer knelt on George Floyd's neck, because for so long it finally killed him.

I was inconsolable.

As the protests demanding justice for Floyd and countless other Black People killed by the police broke out nationwide, I held my breath.

How could I mourn someone I don't know? How could I, myself, a pain I had lived as an African "fresh off The Boat " - In America ? I wondered if I would be the appropriation of the Afro-American struggle in a favorable moment.

Then I saw a video shot at a protest in Long Beach , California, that was clear about loyalties.

"The Best way, the Africans In America can support the Afro-Americans , is, With Us , and understand that we are all the same," said a protester.

I asked Tom Gitaa editor, which serves the African immigrant in the middle West of the USA, what he made of the protests and subsequent riots and looting that began in his city of Minneapolis.

"Many of us grew up with some of these civil human rights in Africa, so that sometimes, our understanding is there.

"But with issues such as police violence and discrimination in the workplace, we run into a lot of the same things, the Afro-experienced Americans in the course of The Years ," said Mr. Gitaa, who moved to the U.S. from East Africa about 30 years ago and their American-Born 24-year-old daughter was one of The People heard on The Streets .

"I think we were actually almost keep the distance from The Black Americans , because we are Immigrants , we were different," she said to me This Week .

"And now we understand that if a Police Officer sees, the color of their skin, he is not to ask whether you are from Ghana or Nigeria or Zimbabwe, or Atlanta, or the South Side of Dallas, you just a Black person. "

African celebrities such as the actress Lupita Nyong'o and comedian Trevor Noah with their powerful platforms to support the movement for justice and the hypocrisy in some of the criticism of the protests.

Ms Udgoon recorded a battle of many other African Immigrants feel: "I expected, I'm grateful to be here. But I sold my soul to The Devil ?"

GettyI' ve been pulled over were by stop-and-frisk and racial profiling. This Fight is my Fight ," Abdul-Karim Abdullah

Mr Abdullah looks Afrochella as a platform for the unification of The Black diaspora, as with seemingly unsolvable obstacles such as this.

"I checked in with Black friends from Haiti, Benin, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, because discrimination has no nationality. Systemic racism affects all of us.

"For a long time, I had not realized that it was an injustice is, until I began to search for language. I pulled over, were by stop-and-frisk and racial profiling. This Fight is my Fight . "Mr Abdullah said.

It is not only his Fight for African-Americans like him, it's a Fight for The Right to be Black is, for sure In America .

I Karen played ' s Voice Note to me, because you had a strong conclusion: "I think, now, what is on display is anti-blackness, and it is the increase in the consciousness about the interconnectedness of so many of our fights, not the same but very much Connected . "
