"Our time is now": I am running for office because of George Floyd

Nov 24,2023 7:31 pm

George Floyd's death a month ago, indignation

The death of George Floyd in The Hands of Minneapolis police officers has called on The World resolved to conclude a movement of racial divides in The World .

But lives for Zina Fizer, and works in The City , where Mr. Floyd was killed, the flash point for what is Now a global movement is very personal. Mr Floyd's death observed, "I have my 24-year-old black son, that you' broke s knee, and my heart," Ms Fizer said. "I knew I had to Do Something . "

Now , Ms Fizer is connected through a wave of African-American women, motivated by the death of Mr. Floyd to seek public office this year. If you are successful in your bid for The Senate , it is Minnesota, the first black female state senator.

A month after George Floyd's death, Ms Fizer and three other candidates, The Bbc say, why you are running, and how you see black women leads to The Next Chapter in American History .

Ronny Stephens, candidate for Minnesota State Senate, district 53 "I think this is a movement that builds over time," kézi Stephens says,

I am politically active for years, beginning in the electoral politics straight from school. I was already asked several times for public office run, and me in a moment of prayer, I said, My God , I was being asked the Next Time , I would Say Yes .

I knew that I had to come to the front, when I saw the video of the murder of George Floyd and the knee pressing on his neck, as he expressed, in his last breath, made a phone call to His Mother . In these Eight Minutes and forty Six Seconds , I knew I had to come to the front.

I think that this is The Moment that builds up over time. The Moment that We Are all, I believe, we have seen it before. But This Time , it was the indifference that was not to be denied. And, for whatever reason, that this society has made excuses for his behavior in The Past , it could no more buck on these excuses.

Together, people of good will and good conscience came to protest in various ways. I came to make a difference in the laws in these moments. The structure that was built was built on systemic racism in This Country , on purpose. And it has to be dismantled, intentionally. It has to be rebuilt, taking into account the needs of The People it is supposed to serve, actually.

" My main political goals would be to craft an amendment to the Constitution, has revolutionized police work in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The focus was on the protection of Private Property over public safety. And, secondly, to have the full benefit of the exposure Covid-19 on the fact that we don't have health care for all. This pandemic, I think, highlights the Problem in the foreground.

I bring A Vision that includes all of us. And I'm not confident that I'm not alone in this. The Vision that I can't Get Out of my head with Gianna Floyd, with outstretched arms, saying, 'my Daddy has changed The World '. And I would like to say to her, 'Yes, he did, because he changed me.

Zina Fizer, a candidate for the Minnesota State Senate, district 44 "Minnesota has never had a black woman, says in The Senate ," Zina Fizer. "It was not The Time in Minnesota was ready. I think The Time is Now . "

The Moment I decided to run was, as George Floyd called to his mom. I have my 24-year-old black son, that you ' broke s knee and my heart. And in that moment, I knew I had to Do Something . Something in me broke. No longer can we just sit here and wait for Other People , the changes in our community.

Minnesota has never had a black woman in The Senate . We have four different black women to run for The Senate . It would be monumental if all four of us were elected to our seats. I think that is what needs to Minnesota to start The Healing process in our communities. Minnesota is in the original document. I think the rest of the country will follow.

We Are in this perfect storm, We Are in The Middle of a pandemic. We have protests in The World , civil unrest, and it is the wind under my wings.

Why is it such an important time for black women? Because we have supported them. We have encouraged them. It is so, how can we support, but never The Lead . And we did not get any results. It is important for us to take The Lead , at this point, because we actually know what We Are doing. We literally and figuratively birthed The Nation . So I think it's time. The People are tired and We Are tired of the Status Quo . America needs to be ready.

Laverne McCartney Knighton, candidate for Minnesota State Senate district thought 65 Laverne McCartney first of all, the concept of running for Senate was fetched from "far".

I decided to run for office because of the unfortunate circumstances surrounding George's Floyd is murder for all of Eight Minutes and forty Six Seconds . I wanted to know, his reputation, His Mother remain unanswered.

I have been asked to consider running for The Senate and, initially, I thought, 'this is pretty far-fetched", but when I realized that George is calling His Mother , I had to answer for a responsibility to that call. I decided that it was time for me to Step Up . As a black woman, living In America , I realized that My Voice needed to be heard. Politics and change can only happen if you at The Table .

I feel to be so authorized, 10 to 20 black women to be a part of the elections. The Status Quo can't continue. We have things to change. I this is a decisive moment feel in The Time . Black women are increasing. And I mean, to really Do Something in This Country is done, I think women are The Ones that done it. And black women in particular, because we have been already asked, are we waiting for in the series. We would have asked whether a sit out.

you know what is stuck in my head about all of this? The fact that so many people come together from all races, all walks of life. And the Young People to Get Out and stand in solidarity with the Black Lives matter, and with all the injustices that have simply been far too long. And it feels good because we know Now that The People see us, they know our struggle, you know our challenges, and our heartache.

I think really what happened here in Minnesota a model for The World to see. I really believe that Minnesota will work hard to do this right. All eyes are on us.

Alberder Gillespie, candidate for U.S. Congress, District 4, co-founder of Black women Increases Alberder Gillespie has contributed to other women is elected, for years. George Floyd's death made her aware, it was her turn.

We have more black women are running this year than usual. We put a reputation as a Black women to African American women, Our Time is Now . We Are working with women for years, been interested since because they for the office, had planned, they would have included for the office, but probably not done it this year, me.

revealed But with the pandemic, the disparities in health care And Then we have George Floyd, who was killed, in our state, and, for many of us, in our city. And when George cried for His Mother , I do not think that it is A Mother to feel anywhere who has something, but especially as a Black Mother . That was The Thing that pushed us to this Next Level . The Time is Now , we can't wait.

We bring a different perspective into policy, as black women. We have The Ability and the tendency to look for anyone. We Are associated with people who are closest to The Pain , in a way that other politicians might not.

I feel like we have lived a lifetime in this last month. But The One thing that gives me hope that if I take a look at the protesters, I see a multi-ethnic and multi-generational group of people. And most importantly, to see the Young People demonstrate and protest, this gave me hope, because I feel like this current generation has a different set of expectations for what should look like America.

I don't know if America is ready for The Rise of black women, but you have to get ready. We can't wait to make it for The People . We know Our Time is Now .
