Liverpool hospital sorry for 'unacceptable' care of dementia patients

Anwar Khawaja has been included in The Royal Liverpool University Hospital after a fall

The Hospital has offered its "sincere apologies" to The Family of a dementia patient complained about his "unacceptable" lack of care.

Anwar Khawaja, 82, was included in The Royal Liverpool University Hospital , on 3. February after a fall where he broke two bones in his pelvis.

His Family said he was "left for hours in his own urine and feces" - and was "mortified" by some caregivers.

The Hospital has said, "patient care is our top priority" and are investigated.

Mr Anwar's wife Nargis, a formal complaint to The Hospital after she noticed that the conditions had her husband to sleep.

She Said : "The physio came and started to help him, move him so that he could sit on The Edge of the standing before him.

"I saw dry feces on his robe and it was clear that it was there for quite some time. I told The Nurse that he is wet and dirty and must be cleaned. "

Mr Anwar's son, the apparatus for Aamer, said The Standard of care, to be his father "simply unacceptable".

"It was another occasion where My Father vomited and the auxiliary nurse just sat there and watched and did nothing to help My Mother clean it.

"Just because someone is old, and is in a bed and could dementia not to deal does not mean you know how people are with you. "

He added: "The NHS is under pressure, people do very hard jobs that you want to be in difficult circumstances, but what do the individual employees, was a betrayal of the NHS and the values it. "

Colin Hont, Deputy head nurse, said: "I have personally spoken to Mr Anwar's family about the concerns you have raised, and assure them of our sincere apology.

"patient care is our top priority. We have taken steps to address The Family , the problem areas and setting a detailed treatment plan for Mr Anwar. "
