Nov 7,2023 8:51 am

up With Glastonbury Festival to be cancelled this year because of the coronavirus, photographer Emma Stoner collected festival-goers " photographs and memories from The Last 50 Years , on the occasion of a round anniversary.

"In this unprecedented time of limited gatherings, and isolation, it feels like a poignant moment to reflect on the history of this legendary festival," She Said .

"It is a place where people meet and come together, memories are made of, communities. Children grow through The Festival , and others are born there. People meet their spouses for the First Time , others break over the weekend.

"We can chart Our Own social history, the political landscape, music and fashion of The Day

"rolling, such As each decade to The Next , it developed a character of its own, but it is something that is so universal, the experiences we all shared in this special place. "

we present Here some of the images collected by Emma Stoner, along with The Thoughts of those who were there.

1970: Jenny Vesty

"I was The First festival in Pilton with Michale, my ex-husband, who unfortunately Passed Away earlier this year.

"I can remember is that it rained right up until The Day it started; we were there to help, not to pay it, so £1 entry.

"found It in two fields, not a lot of people, it is a St John's Ambulance, an Ice Cream truck and The Sound system was rubbish. "

1971: Terry Maine

"from Glastonbury to me, it was an eye-opener. I had never seen anything like that before - it was quite a revelation.

"The Highlights That stuck in my mind: peace, peace and friendship, but they were all strangers. To was naked, and dancing a little weird. Completely different than it is today. "

in 1984, Paul Clements

"This photo was taken by my good friend Anita Hambrook and shows us, waiting for The Smiths to enter, main stage, 1984.

"your friend Paul is next to me, the worse for wear - he entered The Stage of invasion, which meant The Smith's ended their set earlier than normal.

"Glastonbury was still pretty small, and then with security. Everything was soft, pretty, and everyone looked after each other.

"It was a strike the year of the miners' and I don't remember a lot of "coal dole' stickers all over The Place , which was great. "

1987: John Novis

"All Packed in The Car , My Friends , my daughters, got on and off, we are back on The Road to Brecon, Wales.

"Like we were edges with other festival-goers along the country roads, Pilton, Somerset, all of a sudden we were pulled over at a police roadblock. The Police made me to follow your car to a makeshift Police Station and asked to leave us all in The Car .

"they were accusing us of drug trafficking.

"We were on The Station for hours and hours, while you disassembled The Car in pieces, my daughters (10 and eight years old) were in tears because she thought her father would be Taken Away , which led to all of us concerned, as well as hungry and tired.

"Come early in the evening realised they had the wrong people and sent us on our way. "

1989: Ella Camps-Linney

1995: Sian Davey

"My first Glastonbury; I was 24, living in Bristol.

"I had recently met Paddy in Brighton, my first True Love , and he wanted The Festival to Glastonbury and I wanted to meet him there.

2011: Russ Hollowell

"I once stood in The Park and a guy with a guitar standing near looked around, and seemingly in discomfort.

"He caught my gaze and asked, whether I watch'd, his guitar, while he went to the bathroom.

"It's Ed O'brien, Radiohead guitarist, and he sincerely thanked me on his return.

"He asked if I watch to you On Stage , so I followed you when you went further and ended up with a signed set-list. "

2017: Gaia Campbell-Coles

"We thought it would Be Amazing , some pictures of us, taken by a photographer on the wedding aisle around The Festival before we married legally a week later.

"[The Photographer ] suggested we have a handfasting ceremony in front of The Place and put us in contact with some of the local celebrants, which agreed to help us.

"Quite a crowd had gathered for The Ceremony , which we expected, and it was pretty nerve wracking to be in front of so many people, but we were focused on each other, and we soon forget to keep an eye on all of them.

"We were then a hand-written card from Michael Eavis , wish us The Best in our marriage and with the expression of his joy, we have chosen to be handfasted to his festival.

"It was an amazing moment. "

2017: Emma Stoner
