Sir David Attenborough: "people thought we were weirdo'

Jun 28,2023 10:20 pm

Before the Start of his most ambitious series yet, broadcaster Sir David Attenborough talks to the BBC about his cult-status, life-long protection of The Planet and, finally, his most elusive animal.

This year the Glastonbury Festival was headlined by Stormzy, The Killers , Kylie and The Cure , But the highlight for many was The Surprise appearance of a 93-year-old knight of the Empire.

Sir David Attenborough , who was there to promote his new series, the Seven worlds, A Planet, thanked all the bottles on Worthy Farm, to drink out of plastic and called on you, keep on the search for all big and small creatures.

Several months, he confesses, he finds his growing influence on the environment awakened the youth of today are a bit bizarre.

"It is very strange," he laughs. "But the fact remains, I got it for 60 years. You can say That nobody can have been under the age of 75 years, without My Voice from The Corner of The Room at different times-and this must have an effect.

"for me It is a great advantage, because you are using it with some kind of reputation and people aware of them, and in a sense, they were part of The Family for quite a long time, this is an extraordinary commitment, really, and a privilege.

"I'm sure there are a hell of a lot of Young People who say" for God's sake, why didn't you move on, give the other a chance,'" he modestly.

" In truth, no one is saying That .

Showstopper: Sir David Attenborough addresses tens of thousands of festival-goers at Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage

The station was listed recently as one of the 100 Greatest Britons in a BBC poll in 2002.

Since then, its numbers have exponentially increased due to the Natural History shows like Planet Earth , dynasties, and Blue Planet II - the matters to the attention of The Public , and

last week, More Than 80,000 people applied for just 300 tickets for an early screening of his new documentary, what Sir David calls "The Most critical moment on the earth, since the continents formed".

'Tragic, desperate, confused'

The series tells the story of the "rock-Star " - BBC chief Tony Hall introduced That focused on him earlier in The Day - on the human influence on the climate, animal diversity, poaching and the deforestation of the forests in all seven continents.

The latest scientific research showed, as world leaders met to discuss it in New York last month.

"At Last the Nations come together, and in the knowledge That we all live on the same planet," Sir David. "All the seven worlds are, in fact, a and we are dependent for every morsel of food we eat and Every Breath we take.

"We have it in our hands and we have a tragic, desperate mess of it so far. "

By pure chance on The Press to the start of The Show takes place on the same day, the pressure on the environment group, the extinction of Rebellion begin their two weeks of global protest.

And while the presenter is not really to be drawn on their methods, or of political activists such as Greta Thunberg ("you are to be heard, Young People and their voices"), he makes his shows may have helped to open viewers around The World to your eyes, to "the facts".

"I don't think I've made a series That in The Last 40 Years , in which I have not yet made, at the end of a complaint about the care of the Natural World ," he says.

"an extraordinary thing. At the time I probably people thought we were kind of cranks or so.

"But it's gone on and on and on and we have repeated it on and on and on - 'not wasting things, not harmful to the environment things," and so on - Suddenly , she hits The Right tone. "

"Blue Planet II," he says, "Suddenly The World was electrified about the crimes clamp the plastic in The Ocean , the Gas-and poisonous-creatures, including ourselves.

"Quite what it is That makes the news we all say care for the ring, is very hard to come by. I daresay, if we knew exactly How To do it, we would do it more often. "

Hope is important The BBC Natural History unit largest project to date, the characteristics of the music of Sia and Hans Zimmer , involved More Than 1,500 people around The World to be held in 41 countries, over several years.

Cutting-edge Technology , including portable drones capable of shooting in 4K allowed them to dive in caves, volcanoes, forests, swamps, jungle, and snow storms, pictures of animals, which are new to science and new patterns of behavior.

For a Director/executive producer Jonny Keeling, it was very important to place conservation stories, which is The Heart of the series, so That the viewers can understand, why certain animals are in decline. How To recognize the history of the grey-headed albatross, and its growing fight, his own Chicks, once they are blown out of The Nest .

There are positive stories, But there are also, especially, like the whales back from The Brink of extinction, because His team were relieved to catch it on the camera only on The Last day of the seven-week shoot.

"This is really important, as you need to Show People The Hope and, indeed, if we Do Something , we have a Huge difference," says Keeling.

"In a matter of two decades, we can turn around the things we can stop, the whales disappear, or we can save the Sharks . "

The population of southern Right Whales was reduced from 35,000 to just 35 women. Since its protection it has, in the meantime, back to 2,000 Grey-headed albatross Chicks are sitting on the wet floor, in an attempt to stay warm and not freeze to death in the storms

"I think there are some key-species", he adds, "If you saw, after you can bring back an entire eco-system and its wealth.

"The Best solution for Climate Change is the conservation of the Natural World , the preservation of the forests and seas and in search of The Animals .

"It is a Huge cliché, But there are seven billion people on earth, and if seven billion, and start to do The Right thing..."

"Don'T waste'

the global interest in a card is plugged in Sir David, That the schools in India and South Africa are elected in the Q& A session after the London World Premiere .

thrilled A young boy in Mumbai, asks The Man what he can do to help The Planet .

"The Best motto is to think, not superfluous things," answers to TV's favorite teacher (sorry, Walter White fans).

"a waste of electricity, paper, food, not turning. You live how you want To Live , But simply not wasting. To take care of the Natural World and The Animals and the plants, this is their planet just like us. "

Finally, after More Than 50 Years of searching, Seven worlds, also Sir David catch looks up with his evasive animal is still "wonderful creature" by the name of the golden haired blue-faced snub-nosed Snow Monkey .

"I have read That you will come across a scientific treatise That in the' 60s," he recalls. "I always had the back of the head, and blow me, if this lot found!
