would be to weaken A diminished BBC, the country as a whole, the society, the President has warned.

Sir David Clementi said, the station-services behind a paywall would reduce the ability to bring "the country together".

Not everyone would be able to access the "live the important moments that we enjoy as a nation", such as Royal weddings and the Olympic successes, he said in a speech.

His comments come in the midst of a discussion about The Future of the licence fee.

In December, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the licence fee must be"", and the Secretary of state for education Nicky Morgan last week, whether or not non-payment of TV licence fees a criminal offence should remain.

Last month, the BBC's best-paid presenter of the license fee should be voluntary.

Some have suggested, a Netflix-style paid subscription service as an alternative.

Sir David said the BBC would "said fully" with the government of the licence fee, consulting

In his speech in Salford, Sir David: "The BBC is a great national asset, a reduced BBC is a weakened great Britain.

"behind a paywall, it would not be The Place that brings the country together for the Strictly final, or Gavin & Stacey on Christmas, or the armistice anniversary, or the Holocaust memorial.

"it would not be The Place that all could turn to celebrate life's important moments, which we enjoy as a nation: Royal-weddings or anniversaries, or Olympic success. "

Sir David warned, "it would be very unlikely that The Level of properly curated programs for children, or in fact, the ingenious Bitesize education services".

And the BBC "would not have the same commitment for the Investment in home-grown ideas and talent," he said.

', on the basis of The Evidence ,'

the media analyst Claire Enders recently, the BBC and the American streaming giant "incomparable". it is agreed that the comparison was "nonsense".

Sir David pointed out to the speech, as this is when there is a voluntary subscription, to take over the government, the £250m Investment , which will bear the license fee, The World Service.

"The BBC is widely said with the government of [the license fee] advice, but it must be on the basis of The Evidence ," advance comments from his speech.

"A decision of this magnitude, hundreds of millions from the BBC and the creative economy should not be taken in isolation. "

It was revealed last month that 450 jobs are being cut, from Bbc News , plans to complete £80m savings target by the year 2022.
