Currently, Deputy Director-General, he worked there for almost 25 years,
He follows Sir Andrew Parker , the draws in April, after seven years.
Originally from Glasgow, Mr McCallum spent his early years in MI5, with a focus on Northern Ireland, terrorism in context, and later he specialized in the fight against Islamist extremist terrorism.
He led its strategic response to the series of terrorist attacks, took place in 2017 and has to cyber-security.
Mr McCallum said: "MI5 purpose is hugely motivating. Our People - with our Partners , always in the effort, for sure, and you always want to go The Extra mile. "
Sir Andrew Parker said he was "to take The Right person MI5 forward" as the country "is concerned with the effects of the Corona-Virus-pandemic".

to Run MI5 is a challenging task, at any Time , with responsibilities and out of work, to prioritize what are the threats and How To avoid them, is surpassed by the technology. But McCallum also have to fight with new problems.
for almost two decades since the 9/11 attacks, The Challenge of terrorism, the security service work dominates.
But this threat is now diversifying, with more extreme right-wing activity that MI5 now has to monitor started.
And there is the concern that threats from hostile States - Russia , in particular, require more attention, not only with the old-fashioned espionage, but also of disinformation and cyber attacks.
All of this will now have to be carried out in an environment in which Corona Virus is, is to ask new questions about priorities and about where the greatest dangers to our security and way of life come really.
