A chatbot pulled me out of a really dark place"

Oct 7,2023 9:50 am

Alexa Jett found a therapy app useful

Alexa Jett, who has suffered some serious blows in the last few years.

Now 28, she was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in the year 2016. Although she was given the all clear, which hit in August 2019, with a further crisis when her Best Friend and Ex-boyfriend died of cancer at the age of 33.

"I have changed completely. I began to wonder if I said the next," Ms Jett.

she was not able to Get Out of bed and in the household piled up to leave The House in a mess.

In desperation, she searched the online help and Mental Health chatbot, called Vivibot.

"Hey, why don't we make a goal?" the chatbot texted her on the 10th of September.

they only had to paint their toe-nails for the beginning, but this simple task combined with the chatbot "fun and friendly personality" and a 24/7 presence, encouraged by Ms Jett, to do more tasks.

"you took me to a really dark place, and I began to work again," says Ms. Jett.

Vivibot offered by GRYT, an app-based social community for people affected by cancer.

dozens of similar services are available, you can chat with your users on Mental Health issues They offer articles and tips on How To improve your mental and emotional state.

"These chat-bots are the first big step for the people who can claim to have sad or depressive mood, or anxiety related to their Mental Health ," says Danielle Ramo, head of research at Hopelab, which is designed Vivibot.

add, quickly, that chat-bots for the treatment of clinical depression or anxiety disorders, and is not a replacement for human interaction of any kind.

But, clinical Psychologist Noel hunter, that some of the chat-bots are not marketed, and instead, present yourself as a solution for psychological problems.

"you are not very careful to explicitly say that, because you will then be sued. But the people know that there is a message," says Dr. Hunter.

Dr. hunter, chat-bots reinforce the idea that we suffer the blame for Our Own .

Psychologist Noel hunter says, the Mental Health apps do not replace human doctors

"they make you believe that if you just look at your phone and make a few self-help kind of stuff, which is going to be The Healing nature of a healthy relationship," she says.

- the Bots can, of course, can not pick up on the non-verbal communication, which will indicate a lot about the way we feel.

"A large part of this non-verbal communication is essential met for our well-being and our essence, to be missed, not in human-to-human settings," Dr. hunter says.

However, there is a growing interest in using tech to improve The World , Mental Health . The World health Organisation says that one in four of us suffers from some type of Mental Health issue, and other studies show that people are more honest with robots than with people.

Even Social Media giants like Facebook to enter The Arena of digital Mental Health .

In October, 2019, Facebook and Messenger, we launched-Talk-stories-filter and a series of Let's Talk, Messenger sticker tools required to begin to support the people, the conversations.

"We have found that talking about private messages, make it easier, over emotional or serious topics. In fact, 80% of people use messaging apps, you have the feeling, you can be completely honest when messaging vs. in-person," says Antigone Davis, head of global safety at Facebook.

Facebook says that your private messages, which can make it easier to talk about serious topics

looking to The Future , there could come a time when the Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be extended enough to have a deep understanding of human Mental Health .

"maybe We'll have human level AI in 2029," says Peter Diamandis , doctor, engineer, and author of " The Future is sooner Than you Think.

We are only in the first days of AI, in particular in the medical arena, he says.

"The amount of data that says now is the evaluation of the medicine, whether it's a brain MRI, or your genome and the results from different tests, all of these things far beyond the ability of an individual," Mr Diamandis. use

"is It really his fault, AI in diagnosis, in the next 20 years, maybe 10 years," he continues.

Not all progress is in agreement with the KI that you have so quickly. And the question remains, will the people relate to AI in the same way as they do to a human therapist?

Ms thinks Jett is certainly so. She pointed out that her generation has grown up with digital Technology - an extension of your existence.

Peter Diamandis says, in The Future , it will not be, to use the misconduct of the " AI in medicine

But Dr. Hunter sees only a techno-bubble, once it bursts, it will, in turn, the more people on the traditional ways of healing, either in the form of human-to-human therapy or spirituality.

"belonging to certain types of groups of peers who has anything to do with relationships," she says.

Mr Diamandis sees a balance, tilted in the direction of a strong involvement of AI in our lives.

"I could Imagine That a human therapist with AI will be much stronger than a human therapist on your own," he says, adding that, to assess in almost any field, where the AI and human co-existence and treatment of patients, the chances of success are better.

Mr Diamandis calls us to think, to understand, the Iron Man movie, How To make AI, of our Mental Health .

In the Film, genius superhero Tony Stark (Iron Man) is a digital assistant, Jarvis, who organized its sessions, answers the door, and even organized the playlists.

"I think we all have a version of Jarvis in the next ten years," said Mr Diamandis says.

"A Jarvis, call our administrative tasks, How To answer the read our E-Mails or the telephone, a Jarvis, the insight into a depressive mood in Our House and undo it by playing our favorite movie or a song, know it our spirit rises, a Jarvis, the study will be to us 24/7 and get to know us, in many ways, we don't even know ourselves.
