To extend the Bundestag elections in 2019: Johnson promises to stop and search powers

Jun 11,2020 2:46 pm

, The Police will be given "to use more freedoms", stop and look to those who have been known to knife performed in The Past , Boris Johnson has said.

Stop-and-search powers have proved controversial and there is evidence to suggest that black people are particularly targeted.

But the government has already said they are working, and the "Empowerment" of The Police .

Mr Johnson to accelerate plans, charging and prosecution of knife criminals, even if the Tories win the election.

Responding to the Tory leader's announcement, shadow home secretary, Diane Abbott , said: "Tinker, with The Police forces not Tory failure for almost a decade obscure.

"Johnson's support of Tory cuts in The Police force and officers are no plans to restore The Frontline , the successive Tory governments deleted - just as he did to make it never have to recruit well to its promise of "thousands of additional police officers," as London's Mayor . "

you said, the Conservatives do not intend to "do something about youth services, the cut, or the means for the prevention of addiction or the increase in the school's exceptions, have all contributed to rising crime".

Tory proposals will be hotly contested

the knife-crime is still at a historically high level in England and Wales and crime, more broadly, it is an important concern for the electorate to the Conservatives, the plans come as little surprise.

the acceleration of court cases in knife possession is a largely uncontroversial idea, but will take a huge effort in all areas of the Criminal Justice system to make it happen.

More controversial is The Proposal that the increase in stop and search powers at a Time when The Police stops are on The Rise after years of decline.

Although police chiefs are convinced that stop and search is effective, the research is not conclusive, and the disproportionate application of the tactic against young black men was exacerbated by the blame for the tensions.

The Tories' proposal to search for the officers, who warned earlier, or a knife has been sentenced for the implementation, without the need of reasons to do so is likely to be a tough fight.

Stop and search

Speak in a Boxing ring in Manchester, Mr Johnson said he wanted to "come down hard" on the "scourge" of knife crime.

Talking about his plans to extend to stop and search to these with a previous conviction for carrying a knife, he said: "We think that the scared bear, the Young People who have been convicted, Time and again involved in this kind of life again. "

Currently, The Police are allowed to stop and search people, if you can be reason to suspect serious violence.

Speaking in August, home Secretary Priti Patel said: "Stop and search Works - we hear again and again from The Police that [they] need to be empowered. "

But Ms Abbott said, to reduce the forces of violent crimes.

law enforcement Hours

Mr Johnson also said that his government would be "the acceleration of criminal prosecution, to ensure that the risk of being caught is always an effective deterrent".

Under his proposals, the arrest would be caught illegally with a knife and accused within 24 Hours and appear in court within a week.

The Conservatives say that this would be Three Times faster than the current average.

BBC home Affairs journalist Gaetan-says Portal, although the average Time is calculated from the offence to 40 days, the mean Time - probably a more representative measure - is only a day.

The current median Time between someone charged with a criminal offence and to appear before the court, is 17 days.

Our Reality Check team says that reducing This Time is investment in the Criminal Justice system.

violence reduction units

Mr Johnson also said The Solution lies in the "wrapping their arms around the children and put them on The Right tracks in your life".

He reiterated an earlier promise for more funding for violence reduction units from £35m in the year 2020.

These units, knife crime, in which several providers of public services to early intervention projects to tackle.

in the year 2005.
