Whitney Houston (left) and Robyn Crawford, you can relax on a yacht during a break on their 1987 Australian tour

Robyn Crawford Whitney Houston 's Best Friend . A Childhood familiar, as her assistant and creative partner. They were, briefly, lovers.

for years, their romance was the subject of rumors and speculation. Two recent movies about Houston 's, Whitney: I Can Me and the family-sanctioned life-Whitney, raked over the coals of their relationship - suggesting, Crawford was the true love of your life.

Crawford is always a comment leaned on her life with Houston - appear in these films and archive footage, But never consent to an interview.

But has now decided That all the others had their opinion, Crawford, your story. "Why now?" she asks in the introduction to her new book, A song For You .

"Believe me, I have done my best to stay out of the spotlight [But ] I, it is my duty to honor My Friend and to clarify the many inaccuracies about myself and about who was Whitney".

confirmed, for the First Time , your romantic history with Houston , which began when they were teenagers and lasted for two years.

"wasn't It all about our Sleeping Together ," she says in the book. "We could trust each other with our secrets, our feelings, and who we were. We were Friends , we were lovers. We were everything for each other. We were not in love. We were just. We had each other. We were one: That is how it felt. "

Houston broke The Relationship only after she signed her record contract, handing Crawford a Bible, and told her That she was afraid to embarrass him in public.

Getty, Whitney shared with me their belief That if the people about our relationship, they would use it against us. Robyn Crawford
Crawford remained a loyal friend and emotional bulwark, anchoring Houston past her, and gave life to The Ship of their often turbulent private.

without make-up, she describes how to use your medication, and as she watched, helpless, as your friend in the habit of control.

"whatever rules we come up with to responsible drug use, she kept breaking them, and use them whenever you wanted to," she writes.

by the time Crawford Houston quit the team in 2000, was to cancel The Star shows and the lack of recording sessions. You thought The Singer was physically abused by her husband, Bobby Brown , and had found burned spoons in your kitchen.

Crawford's own story is not much happier - she is The Daughter of a single mother who left husband after years of abuse; and lost two of her closest Family Members to Aids.

But the book is overwhelmingly gloomy. After fleeing Houston railway Crawford slowly rebuilt her life and is now happily married and has two adopted children. She worked as a journalist, interviewing the likes of Jessica Biel and Kristen Bell , and is currently a fitness trainer.

your goal is to write in the book was to erase the memory of drowning in a bathtub on the eve of the 2012 Grammy Awards , and remind The World That she was "big-hearted, selfless, hilarious" and the phenomenally gifted - whether they are singing at the Super Bowl , to learn, to the number of The Bodyguard , or the celebration in the Church (where some members of the community were so overwhelmed by their singing, they would be weak).

"I want to raise her. I want to lift you, so That you can keep your legacy up way high," Crawford told the BBC, as she tells the making-of your Memoir .

Crawford called Houston by her childhood nickname, "Nippy" as it was, back all those old memories, as you wrote the book?

I spent the majority of The Last two-and-a-half years the feel and re-live the 80s and the 90s, to The Point That my son said One Day , "I'll be glad when mom is ready, to write this book so That you can play with me again".

It is really true, you know? Sometimes they would bother me and I would snap in a train of thought, it would be a delayed reaction, or I could For You . So, I really wasn't, the mummy That I had to be attentive to every detail.

And The Process of writing was Like a roller coaster of emotions. The beginning, where we were, bright-eyed, adventurous, fearless; then The Wild years of all the things we spoke about, And Then My Family and the challenges there. So there were tears of joy, tears of sorrow, burden.

talk about watching Whitney in the studio, and how you could breathe life into a song; But I wondered what it was Like to hear you Sing in private, at home or in The Car ?

I have to call the pre-concert! We had in this house in New Jersey and in the big room, it was a dome. You would came in the room and Sing Gospel , jazz, Al Jarreau , what to you - because the acoustics were awesome. I remember one night she was singing in this room, " Fly Me To The Moon , it was so effortless, That it sounded As If you really fly.

Crawford accompanied Houston to The World , to work as her assistant and creative director In the early days, it sounded Like you had a lot of fun. The water-gun fights in hotel hallways and explore The World .

The One thing about Whitney, she was Like a child. She wanted to have as much fun as she could.

I remember Whitney, Lehigh University arena in Pennsylvania would rent to prepare for tours, and we would always play football outdoors on your field. A time, for The Last few games, we told her, 'OK, the whole line, go to The Right and we will block For You . You pause for a second, a second, and you shoot right behind us.

"they said, 'OK, OK, OK'. But if we all went right, they went to The Left . She ran directly into a man, you cut off the knee and it was overturned. For the rest of the General sample, she could not wear her heels. So no "touch" football for us. They killed it for all. After That , pong was ping.

people will be interested to read about your romantic relationship with Whitney. The way you describe, it is very tender and Moving , But at the same time, it is not a big deal. You say you "have never talked about labels, such as lesbian or gay," so it was just what it was.

Mmm-hmm, That 's just how it was.

People pull it off, Like a relationship, But we met and the chemistry has voted and we became Friends . We built the friendship to be open and honest with each other about everything. She told me That she was going to this character [record] deal, and she wanted me with her all over The World . And on the way we had an intimate, loving, physical experience of friendship in our friendship. It was love and it was open and honest.

Whitney ended The Relationship shortly after signing their record contract, she says, "it would be our trip even more difficult". How hard was it, those feelings will be on one side, and just Friends ?

Now, we were Friends and we knew each other very Well .

The focus was always where we went. Nothing could stand in the way of That . Whitney told me, you believe That if the people about our relationship, they would use it against us. And it was the 80s. You were either this or That . And women were treated in a manner, where they were rivals, and not enjoyed. So it was a lot, and we were young. We were young, But we were fearless.

In a way, they protect each other.

That was very important. Whitney said: "I want you right here. You know me. She knew me before we came, where we went. "We were a team. She knew me and she trusted me.

I was impressed by your mom's first meeting with Whitney, where she says, "You look Like an angel, But I know you're not". And Then , a few days later, Whitney you will be presented with a joint for the First Time .

My Mother had for her. Whitney had this angelic glow over her. And Then you OK pulled a joint out of her breast pocket, As If to say, "Yeah, I do this also?"

The two of them together have drugs often, But eventually she tried to talk her out of the habit of kicking. You, you give up on ever a serious attempt to think?

We have never believed That cocaine was a good thing; and in the early years She Said to me: "This can't go where we go". So, I think, for sure That Whitney knew That she needed to do and wanted.

I write in the book That you have someone to help.

Yes, That is the in the year 2001, they called to discuss a doctor, rehab.

" Yes, Dr. Richard Frances. She called out to him. And She Said she was someone who wanted to die. She was someone who wanted To Live . You said That .

Crawford was a maid of honor in Houston 's wedding to Bobby Brown in 1992, The Public perception That things took a dark turn when Bobby Brown appeared on The Scene . That seems to be a dividing line in your life and your career.

do you agree with this narrative?

she made The Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale, if you are with Bobby, right?
