HS2: when will the line open, and how much will it cost?

Sep 6,2022 11:51 am

Important work have already been carried out, on sites such as Euston, Solihull and Birmingham central for HS2

, the high-speed Rail Link Between London , Birmingham , Manchester and Leeds .

The infrastructure project, currently the largest in Europe, was delayed, and faced growing concerns about the exact route and the spiraling costs.

During the whole of The Line to be built, the government is set to check, you spend on The Project to find savings.

So, what is the proposed route, and why The Project is way over budget?

What is the route of the HS2?

The new railway line Between London and the West Midlands 400m-long (1,300 ft) trains would carry how many of the 1,100 seats per train.

The Line would allow trains to reach speeds of up to 250mph and would run as often as 14 times per hour in each direction.

A V-shaped Second Phase would then run services from Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds .

The Project will triple the capacity of the trains to triple over the whole route.

The government launched a review of the high-speed railway network in August of 2019 to consider whether and how The Project should be continued. In January, the BBC revealed That " The Project .

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister said That there are new "supply arrangements" for the sections to Leeds and Manchester .

A new HS2 station alongside Manchester Piccadilly to this part of The Plan . The mayor in the North of England, have urged That The Project be delivered in full, to increase investment and productivity in the areas.

The program originally began under the Labour government in 2009. It is the second High-Speed rail project to High Speed 1, the open left St. Pancras International and the Channel Tunnel ,

what is HS2?

was The First phase of the railway Between London and Birmingham - due to the until the end of 2026.

But could the Parliament in September 2019, which now will be 2028-2031, before The First trains run on the track.

in The Second Phase to Manchester and Leeds was due to open in 2032-33, but was 2035-2040 pushed back.

How much will it cost to HS2?

The official price for the HS2 was in the Budget for 2015 and came to just under £56bn.

But the government has doubled the estimate for The Project since then, almost, with the last number 106bn after rose to £,, to an official review, the Financial Times had in January.

how much money was spent to show for The Project in an interview for Sky Kids' FYI.

He said That HS2 Ltd had objected "just for The Money wasted. And the whole way it is managed, which had become hopeless. "

so Why is HS2 about the budget?

Management issues and unrealistic land valuations have caused the cost of HS2 to.

HS2 will cut through a crowded landscape. The First route from London Euston to The West of London is through a huge tunnel under the centre of London .

the Former executive Doug Thornton previously said the BBC's Panorama programme, The First estimates for the acquisition of property and land "were".

A year in 2019, freedom of information request revealed That real estate, the costs are to achieve the forecast £5 billion, compared to the original £1. 1 billion estimate.

HS2 not to realize, also, extensive ground surveys, which has caused problems for the digging and excavation, according to The Project , the current Chairman, Allan Cook.

says The Department for transport, The Project will cut Birmingham to London journey times of an hour and 21 minutes to 52 minutes.

Once the Second Phase is completed, from Manchester to London , travelling an hour would take seven minutes, (down from two hours, seven minutes), Birmingham and Leeds , 49 minutes (two hours).

The government hopes, there is also capacity to be free, the on crowded commuter routes.

What is the opposition to HS2?

Some deputies arguing That the construction of HS2 will create thousands of jobs would.

Others believe That it could be a catalyst for economy to help growth and could re-balance the economy Between the North and the South.

But, HS2 will pass about 70 parliamentary constituencies, and local groups have opposed the scheme to influence their MPs to vote against the plans.

It is the political pressure on some of the Conservative members in particular, some of whom are against The Project , as the route to pass through their constituencies.

newly elected Conservative members representing seats in the North and The Midlands , are also reportedly against The Project , arguing The Money would be better for the improvement of local transport Links .

it is of the opinion That the operation of The Line will result in more carbon emissions, as well as damage to wildlife and the ecosystems they support.

previously argued That he believes That a disproportionate number of the 30,000 new jobs around the HS2 stations in phase one will be in London .
