"We are committed to the UK. However, changing demand and cost disadvantages, plus a absence of additional engine models for Bridgend to the front of the system to go is not economically viable in the coming years. "

Later, he said the decision was nothing to do with Brexit although he noted that the plans of The Company would be "very important for The Employees , their families and the community in South Wales ".

Mr Rowley has confirmed The Company will be £11m pay in the granting of incentives by the Welsh Government .

"It doesn't matter what You build, if people want to buy it, it is at the end of his life, full stop," he said.

He said The Union would continue to work with Ford, other unions and the Welsh Government "to find a solution to the Problem and mitigate the effects of this devastating message".

Unite union General Secretary Len Mccluskey Ford said had treated their British workers "guts".

"The fact remains that it is cheaper, easier and quicker to sack our people as those who swear in of our competitors," he said, to "against this closure, with all our power".

How Ford came to Bridgend Ford chose to Bridgend for its new engine plant in the summer of 1977, in accordance with the competition from elsewhere in Europe, especially from Ireland.

The Company needed an engine for the new Model , code-name " Erika - the Escort is the next generation of Ford.

It was to be built in Halewood on Merseyside and in the case of Saarlouis, in Germany, from 1980.

The Promise was for 2,500 jobs, but by the time it opened, in may 1980, Ford had decided to just 1,400 workers. There, 22,000 people were applying for the roles.

More Than a decade were raised when the decision was made to not from Ford of England and Ford of Europe, the different designs of the cars in the comparison with the United States and the rest of The World .

This was "money well spent", because the plant had "back - £3bn pumped" in the Bridgend economy in The Last 10 years alone, Mr Skates said.

" What we have repeatedly said, Ford has, over the past months and years, that Wales is ready, it is perfectly positioned to help companies. "

Prime Minister Mark Drakeford said the news was "incredibly sad", and promised would do the Welsh Government , "everything in its power" to support the people affected and to "work with all partners, opportunities for The Future of the plant".

Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price said closure would be "one of The Most bitter blows" on the Welsh economy for More Than 30 years.
