He is best known as the host of his BBC Radio 2 lunchtime programme which presents news, views, interviews with live guests and popular music, taking over from long time host Sir Jimmy Young in 2003.

A former Bbc journalist described as a Central figure in Westminster, and master of interviewing politicians on The Street died at the age of 61.

Paul Lambert , affectionately known as "Gobby", was often heard on TV to shout, questions to the Minister.

He left The Bbc in 2014, to be communications director of UKIP.

His daughter, Danni, The Family is "devastated said on Facebook". Bbc Head of Westminster Katy Searle called him an "institution in Westminster".

"His fear of free access to political door-to-door politicians duck and a journalist made, colleagues cheer," she added.

"We Are all deeply saddened by The News and send our Best Wishes to His Family . "

The Bbc 's political editor Laura Kuenssberg described Mr. Lambert as a "part of politics".

Mr Lambert - who began his career as an electrician before working His Way up through the ranks at The Bbc to lead the communications for the UK Independence Party.
