Coronavirus: Facebook launches UK Covid-19 symptom-survey
The survey asks Facebook users about their health and social distancing
Facebook will start to ask selected UK users, whether they had symptoms of Covid-19, later on Wednesday.
It is part of a joint effort with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to track the spread of the disease.
Facebook said it would not have access to the health data of the user, but to the CMU.
An expert said that data from the surveys would be useful to scientists, but probably not, on its own, reveal a lot about the disease.
Facebook launched the surveys in the United States, on 6. April, draws over A Million responses per week.
the users were asked questions about their health and whether they have experienced all the common symptoms of Covid-19, such as a persistent cough or a fever.
And CMU analysts want to predict "in a few weeks," a use of data from surveys and other sources, how many Covid-19 hospital and ICU admissions are likely to be in certain areas.
Facebook has been published, which show the estimated proportion of people with Covid-19 in areas in the United States.
App-fatigueMauricio Santillana, at Harvard University , said The Project was "very useful".
"The Covid-19-outbreak presents us with major challenges in terms of the estimation of the prevalence in the population," he told Bbc News .
“the more data sources that we have access to... the better. "
But trust a single data source, it would not be wise and Facebook-survey data should be treated as "complementary" to other information.
Dr. Santillana also warned, apps, and surveys that askes people about their health would not necessarily be able to sustain a wide response from The Public .
"We have seen that in apps that ask you every week how you feel just to engage in the rule at the beginning of a lot of people excited, And Then , as the time evolves, less and less people participate," He Said .
And the longer the pandemic continues, which could tend to "app fatigue".
