Do roundabouts in Milton Keynes healthier?

Apr 29,2023 8:41 pm

Gill soil always keeps You in front of the windows when You shut down, because they are your concerns about the air quality in Luton

Luton and Milton Keynes similar to large cities produce similar levels of pollution. However, Milton Keynes is a much healthier life. Could this have something to do with it, with its notorious roundabouts?

are closed Even on the hottest day of the year, The Front Windows of Gill soils of the semi-detached house in Luton, fixed.

It is a security measure - not only by potential human intruders, but of pollutants in the outdoor air.

The retired library manager, moved to Luton 56 years, a city which found a scientific air quality study recently, was one of the worst in the country, in the dispersing pollution.

Three years ago, woman floors has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Mrs floors says because of her illness She Said fluctuations of the instructions in the quality of the air, as she takes a journey from Luton

"I have chest problems, I can't Breathe properly at times," She Said . "There were times when I can't Breathe , and I have to call for medical help.

"There are times when I go shopping and if I dare, the window is not open, in my car, because The Cars come by, there are just as many fumes, if You stand at the Traffic light, that I just can't Breathe . "

experts from the Birmingham Institute for Forest Research and the University of Lancaster Environment Centre recently 146 population saw the UK's wealthiest areas,

Luton is not the worst air pollution. In fact, it is about mediocre, and as The Scientists said they would expect for a city of its size.

But where it's falling down, according to the study, a shift of the pollution in the air, so it is less concentrated.

The Scientists found Luton it was especially bad because of the population lives in a fairly small built-up Space .

Because it is compact and densely populated, Luton fights More Than other cities, in order to get rid of the pollution

"It (Luton) is the city benefited least from the "dilution effect" of the conversion of emissions to concentration and the concentration of said is important for the health," the study's lead author, Professor Rob Mackenzie.

The district Council is hoping the air quality will improve.

Only 23 miles down the street and Breathe in Milton Keynes , the geography of the city, the air is healthier.

Milton Keynes layout is best from the air

Often considered run, and its Concrete Cows , it seems, now in its 1960s design is located in The Heart of the pollution-busting mocked for its endless circle of success.

"Milton Keynes roundabouts to do two Things - reduce the start-stop drive, which reduces the production of pollution, and make room to help the pollution dilution and mixing away," said Prof Mackenzie.

"Milton Keynes picked up a lot more Space for his people and his transport-which means that the pollution it produces, is diluted in a larger Space .

"Luton is very much more compact, so that it does not win, the dilution benefit.

"The biggest effect of green spaces on air quality in urban areas to provide Space for the to disperse the pollution. "

mother-of-three-Sara Millington Keynes moved to Milton a decade ago.

Sara Millington, says Milton Keynes residents are rarely, if ever, in a jam

"I used To Live in Leicester and Milton Keynes , just not the feel of a crowded city at all," She Said .

"You 've never sat in a Traffic jam other people's smoke inhalation, and there are large green areas and parks all around. It is a more spread out city.

"We have so many people, outdoor exercise - You have cars, people on bicycles, moms Jogging with babies in the children and really popular parkruns. "

One of which the exercise is Claire Horner.

"I used To Live in Luton, and I would not dream of exercising Outside In Luton, but that is what I am in Milton Keynes ," She Said .

"I do all my exercise outside. It is a nice breath of Fresh Air . I love it. "

But local environmentalists say the city still has some work to do.

Chris Gossop, the Two Mile Ash environmental group, said some areas of the city had seen, denser development, and the trees replaced with a new underpass.

"We are aspiring to a zero-carbon community, and we're going to have to transport to Do Something ," he said.

The British lung Foundation, warns that a high level of environmental pollution, not only the existing breathing problems worsen can conditions also "a contribution to the development of lung".

environmental pollution, and how quickly You can dissolve, vary from street to street, and from hour to hour.

But given cities once, You can easily change your own design, what You can do to lower concentrations of pollution in the air breathed by the residents?

Prof Mackenzie says that the only option for places like Luton, it is the total amounts of pollutants to its residents and visitors to radiation, by better, drive clean, Public Transport and the changeover to electric car.

cities such as Luton, he says, does not "rely on the dilution effect of it is spread around the problem to avoid".

"I would prefer Luton to recognize that their particular situation, it represents a relative disadvantage, so You should have to work even harder at driving down emissions from transport. "
