Young Reporter: As we have coped with the life in the coronavirus-lockdown

Dec 1,2023 8:31 pm

Wiktoria (right) with her three Family Members tested positive for coronavirus

Teenage, presents All kinds of challenges and opportunities, but what happens when everything is disrupted by a pandemic?

the BBC reporter asked, to share Young People from across the UK share their stories, such as coronavirus and the blocking affected you.

A special online-uploader was developed for 11-18-reports-annual, with BBC programs and platforms.

Here, three Young People from Northern Ireland tell their stories.

'I'm sure I had tested for coronavirus'

Wikoria, 15, not tested, coronavirus, but given your symptoms and the fact that three members of your household to be positive, she thinks she had The Virus .

I tried to write this story several times, but something never felt right. As you can imagine, how a person feels coronavirus?

How do you think that a person who does it feel when you hear that another person has died?

After All , it's just A Number that climbs higher Every Day , but what happens if you are in The Group of people that were infected?

I can only speak how I felt, the fight against this invisible villain that killed and infected so many.

I felt resentment, symptoms occur and they still say to yourself: it's nothing, I'll be fine.

Maybe, because it does not want to see scary we have to face? But resentment is not, and will not, last forever.

slowly, I moved to The Truth of what I had to do. Loss of taste, headaches, chest pain, Sore Throat , and cough were my main symptoms.

I don't have The Test for coronavirus, but my mother, sister and brother-in-law, I have to Live With and are the key workers and they All tested positive.

I saw them All : tents, masks, swabs, and the terrified faces.

you know, what is the largest thing there is to face, if you coronavirus have? The People . You are scared, you look at them differently. But I was afraid.

Say: 'I haven coronavirus' for me, it was frightening, they say it is to know the other, for The World , was petrified. All of these questions: How? Why? When?

After a month, I can say that I know the answers to questions, to answer which I was not ready. I am grateful for The Experience , because normally I like to be in control of every situation, And Then All of a sudden I was in a scenario where I was powerless.

This has helped me to realize that it's okay, not everything is under control.

I am healthy. We are All healthy now.

'My parents are back in South Africa ", Deaghlan with his grandmother

Deaghlan, 16, left His Family behind in South Africa and moved to the North to follow Ireland, to his dream of becoming A Journalist .

I moved to Belfast from South Africa with my grandmother in The Middle of December 2019, and behind my parents and My Brothers and sisters left to continue My Education .

But within a couple of months ago, we were in lockdown here, and I have to cope with, both leaving behind My Family and The Life I had known, in South Africa , as well as life in lockdown.

Due to the current restrictions, I don't know when I will get to see next, my parents.

- My mom is from Belfast. You and your family left Northern Ireland , South Africa , 45 Years ago. But when my gran came back, and Northern Ireland last December, I came with her.

I would like to be A Journalist . So I got to do to Belfast, media and Music Technology course in Belfast Met.

Deaghlan with His Family in South Africa

It was hard to see My Family , as I was supposedly to see how you're at the beginning of may. Then I was supposed to fly Back To South Africa later in June for a holiday with them.

But South Africa has some of the most stringent lockdown rules in The World , so I found out that I have to go now will not be able to be there.

This is really a test of me and My Family , because I've never away from them for More Than a month ago - it was isolated 10 times worse.

I was in the Chat on video-calls, but it was still a shock. I also miss my dogs a burden, you are a part of Our Family .

But there were some positive aspects to lockdown, as I have been able to focus on my interests in music and journalism.

I have a six-month-people-management-course in January began, while I wait for the media and music course starts in September, and we have done that, zoom out-calls only to go to us.

As I thought about my experience of the coronavirus lockdown, I'd say it had its UPS and downs. But I always have a positive attitude to achieve my goals, as I continue to work on my music and journalism dreams.

Lose grandparents coronavirus James (below right) with his brothers,

James , 12, describes what it was like when his grandfather died due to Covid-19.

When I Heard that the school would close, I got excited because I thought that we would not have to do very much work and that it would be good to be out.

At the beginning I thought it was great since we had early in the most part of our summer vacation.

A couple of days I noticed how wrong I was to think so.

A few weeks after we from the school, My Family has very Bad News . My granda Covid-19 had.

He was taken to the hospital, and it was very hard to visit will not be able to him at All .

James ' grandfather died a week after he was admitted to the hospital

A week after he to the hospital he died. My Family and I were All very sad, and it was made even worse, as we Wake, or a mass for him were not allowed.

We had to go to a funeral, but only eight people were allowed to.

I had to stand with My Brothers outside of The Wall of the cemetery, if my granda was buried. Everything felt a little strange and unusual.

That was a hard time for Our Family , especially since it reminds me of the very sad time eight years ago, when my oldest brother Ciaran passed.

I have many happy memories of the time with my granda.

I enjoyed working in the garden with my him, and I used to help him water the tomato plants in his greenhouse and he would collect the day, me from the school every. I miss him very much.
