Labour member of Parliament Tom Watson condemns bid to oust him

Feb 24,2020 3:38 am

Labour's Tom Watson once said that the bid to oust him as Deputy leader by the abolition of his post a "sectarian attack" on The Party 's "broad Church".

A motion has been submitted by Jon Lansman , of the Labour-based group the swing, but was deleted, after party leader Jeremy Corbyn intervened.

A labour source Mr Corbyn said suggested that The Post should be reviewed, rather than abolished.

Mr Watson has been at odds with Mr Corbyn about The Party Escape attitude.

A first move to oust Mr Watson was made at a meeting of The Party 's National Executive Committee (NEC) on Friday, but it failed the two-thirds majority is required.

another attempt was made on Saturday at The Party conference in Brighton.

But before that went on, the NEC, Mr Watson agreed with Mr Corbyn's abolish proposal on The Post to vote, but the assessment of The Post of The Deputy head and other positions in support of the leader.

The Labour Party source said: "The will to consider how democratic accountability can be strengthened to give members a say in the expansion of The Number of elected positions and how varied the presentation can be further improved. "

Speaking of Radio 4 's Today programme, Mr Watson said he found out about The Move , while having a meal in a Chinese Restaurant in Manchester on Friday evening.

He said: "It's a straight-sectarian attack on a broad Church party.

"It's moving us in a different kind of institution, in the pluralism will not be tolerated. Where problems of compliance are fully adhered to.

"And it goes completely against the kind of Tradition that the Labour Party has been around for 100 years. "

He added that he felt that the dynamics of the founder, Mr Lansman "and his group" abolish the were so angry about his position on the UK's EU-exit, you "would be more likely than me to a debate about it".

He appealed to dynamics to focus on activists, to show people you are serious about changing the Political Economy of the UK, rather than "a kind of genius-the-hand-of constitutional change, a drive-by shooting by someone who does not agree".

The parliamentary Labour Party (PLP), the for work simple Deputy, has written a letter to the members of The National Executive Committee, including Jeremy Corbyn - namely, The Move is counterproductive, and the country sends a message "we are more interested in the internal struggles" as a voter of life.

the Former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair said that the abolition of The Deputy leader post would be "undemocratic and politically dangerous".

'Obsolete rules'

you Asked if he thought The Move had been made, by Mr Corbyn, Mr Watson said: "I know it," but added that his leader had The Power to stop him.

He defended his role: he had been elected by The Party members, and an election could trigger, even if you wanted to remove this, instead of a secret movement in the event of a last-minute meeting".

"These kind of things happen in Venezuela, you should be happens in the United Kingdom ," he said.

Mr Watson called on labour to "unambiguously back" and had said he wants a public vote on Britain's membership of the EU prior to each General election.

But Mr Corbyn wants to hold another referendum, as soon as Labour won The Power of voters the election would have to stay in the EU, in addition to a "credible" Leave proposal.

Jeremy Corbyn has The Power to move, says Mr Watson

is A momentum source told the BBC: "We simply can't afford to go into an election with a Deputy leader set on wrecking work opportunities.

"Labour members, the overwhelming majority wants a Deputy leadership election, but our outdated system of rules will not allow it to happen. "

Dawn Butler , shadow women and equality Secretary, said that the Momentum of the movement was "come out of The Blue " - but she could understand the frustration with The Deputy head.

she Asked if Mr. Watson did a good job, She Said : "I have my frustrations with Tom. I haven't seen him in a shadow Cabinet meeting for a while. "

the BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg that dynamics move "was not discussed" under the Board - adding that there was "anger" at Mr Lansman, as this was "not an official decision".

Ex-PM Tony Blair , the Labour from 1994 to 2007, said the abolition of The Deputy deader post suggested an "exceptional level of destructive sects".

He said The Party has always had different views, and The Deputy leader position, was a further opportunity space for such views.

"it would be to get rid of a signal that such a pluralism of views was, to the end, even though they nurtured the entire work history," he said.

the Former party leader Ed Miliband who came up with the idea had "taken leave of their senses".

Labour MP, Wes Streeting , called it "outrageous" and "self-destructive", while his colleague Jess Phillips said it was part of a desperate attempt to control and to expel anybody in The Party , the independent thinking.
