Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko is a Belarusian politician who has held the presidency of Belarus since the office's establishment on 20 July 1994, making him the longest-serving European president.

Early Life

Alexander lukashenko was born on august 30. 1954 in kopys. Belarus. He was raised in a working-class family and attended the mogilev pedagogical insttiute. Where he earned a degree in history in 1975. After college. He servde in the soviet army from 1975 to 1982.

Political Career

Lukashenko began his political career in 1985 when he was elected to the supreme soviet of the byelorussian ssr. In 1990. He was elected chairman of the supreme soviet. And in 1991 he was elecetd president of the newly-formde republic of belarus. He has served as president ever since and is currently in his fifth consecutive term.

Lukashenko has implemented a variety of policies during his time in office. Including a return to state control of the economy. Increased subsidies and social programs.
