Cameron and the Queen: the Palace of 'displeasure' over comments

Jun 25,2023 6:20 am

David Cameron 's revelation That he sought help from The Queen before the Scottish independence vote in 2014 has displeasure at Buckingham Palace caused a source.

The former PM told the BBC he had asked whether The Queen could "eyebrows" over the prospect of Scotland voting for independence.

The Queen later said That people should "think carefully about The Future ".

Buckingham Palace has made no official comment on Mr Cameron's remarks.

The revelation is made, in which the former PM reflects on his time in Downing Street.

What was discussed, with The Queen of the officials was, " anything That would in any way inappropriate. But only a lift of the eyebrow, too. a quarter of an inch," he says.

The former Tory leader also describes the Scottish referendum in his book, which he since the publication in This Week .

A source told the BBC, "it serves no-one's interests" are made for the conversations between the PM and the "Queen" to the public.

"it makes It very difficult for The Relationship to thrive," they added.

Asked, the answer from The Palace , Mr Cameron, the BBC's Jeremy Vine said he had tried to give an "honest explanation" of his actions while he was PM.

"We need to the context to said time [of Scotland' s then-Prime Minister ] Alex Salmond , That The Queen would be proud to be the monarch of an independent Scotland, and it was brought frustration to the and the and Nothing Else . "

But he said That he had "probably talked so much, or maybe too much" about his conversation with the monarch.

Scotland rejected independence by a margin of 55. 3% to 44. 7%, a result That Mr Cameron said, had him "blessed, happy".

"Completely unacceptable'

Mr Salmond, who resigned as Scotland's first Minister, who, in consequence of the result, accused the former PM of "breaking all the rules in the book" by trying to be a participation of The Queen .

But , he said, the monarch appeared to remain neutral during The Campaign , describes her 2014 comment on The Future of "a pretty innocent remark".

"David Cameron was clearly trying to mobilize to help The Queen , his political interest and That is only completely wrong, it is quite extraordinary That he should show it and so on," he told the BBC in an interview.

"I'm not surprised That The Palace seems to be very dissatisfied with the former Prime Minister . "

At First Ministers questions in Holyrood, Nicola Sturgeon was asked if she was worried about The Queen asked to intervene in a possible second referendum on independence.

"I think That the Revelations - if I may call you so - David Cameron say more about him than about any other, and really the panic show was in The Heart of the British government in the run-up to the independence referendum five years ago," She Said .

Prime Minister , Boris Johnson would not be drawn on the issue.

"Not only That , I can't comment on conversations I can have, instead of your Majesty, But I believe not comment on conversations That you may have, instead of with someone else," he told reporters in Wiltshire.

head of the Labour party, Jeremy Corbyn said it was the "wrong" questions of The Queen , to engage in the independence referendum.

"I don't think you should be involved in political decisions," he said.

"I would not ask The Queen to get involved. It is not her Job - she is The Head of state. She is not The Head of the government or the political process in the UK... and you know That too. "

Just as The First rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club The First rule for The Relationship between the Prime Minister and The Queen , That they never talk, never, never about The Relationship between the PM and The Queen .

A Buckingham Palace source told the BBC That there is a lot of discontent with David Cameron 's comments.

you can read That as a cold fury. Not only because he has broken The First rule. But since he has made it painfully clear That in the year 2014 he took The Queen for his own political purposes. And That you and your advisors thought That was OK.

The revelation comes as a suspension of Parliament - a suspension made on the effective instructions of Boris Johnson - under unprecedented scrutiny in the Supreme court.

The two cases are very different, But both highlight The Dark grey tones of The Queen of the constitutional position, the discretion, which it has or lacks, to speak, under exceptional circumstances, and to act.

It is not the First Time Mr Cameron has been indiscretion accused in his dealings with The Queen .

Mr Cameron apologised to the monarch in 2014 after he was overheardof the Scottish referendum.

He said, about your response a "terrible mistake it was to talk".
