Why body image is a major issue on the edge
The Roaring girl have a Fringe a Show called the beach body Ready
There are More Than 3,000 shows at this year's Edinburgh showcase everything from political satire to the hip modern clean-ventions of the circus big top. This is an issue, what is at This Time of the body-Image . But why it has become so popular now?
The fringe attracts fans of dance and magic and serious drama, but the majority of ticket-buyers probably hope to have a laugh. But that doesn't mean no one is talking about issues that matter.
Daniel Lobell is a stand-up based in Los Angeles and is currently on his third trip to the edge. His Show tipping the scales focuses on the fact that he weighs More Than 24 stone. It's about his attitude to his body shape, but also about the attitude of the people he meets.
"I have a related Show in The Last year," he says, "but now I'm in a different place with my weight and I have to say new things and a whole new perspective. There is far more hope in this Show . "
Elisa-Grace Lawrence (l) and Niamh Callan's Show , the pressure women face to look a certain wayIn The Last 12 months, Daniel 55 pounds lost. He says he is a very lucky man for you.
"I think Most People are ignorant of what it means to be a very overweight person, and this is reflected in how they treat us. But my Show this year is far less bleak than it was. The Change in My Life was a combination of all the things I've done: it's been a mental and therapy, but I turned things around with positive thinking.
"In The Show , I did not say that he is seriously overweight not only about love to Sandwiches - it's about The Addiction . If you fight against drugs or Smoking or drinking, it's all the same struggle. "
at home in LA, Daniel , working with teenagers with drug addiction problems. "The children are between 11 and 17, the combating of addiction to heroin or cocaine or maybe you have a suicide attempt. Working with them convinced me that I was in the fight against The Addiction that I suffer. "
On the stage in Edinburgh, Daniel finds Humor in what can be a gloomy subject seem.
"But The Greatest gift anyone can give, is to free yourself from The Prison of your mind. I think The Audience here is often resonance find, with their own struggles. It is not necessarily to do with weight or body Image . "
Daniel Lobell's Show focuses on his attitude to his weight and how his Size affects the way he treatedMichael Livesley, who, in Liverpool, has also talk on the stage in Edinburgh on his way to the weight loss. He makes his living primarily doing TV soundtracks, and he used to weigh More Than 20 stone.
"I had to eat a life-style that went from television to The Couch to go to The Kitchen to eat, too much. Then I would go to a nice, comfortable sound studio to record stuff.
"In, I suffered from what is called the Paradise syndrome: I was not allowing myself to be happy. But I had Two Good buddies that I always thought were lazy and less fit than me, and they both died. I knew that things had to change and that is why I Am in Edinburgh.
"Exactly a year ago I told myself I would talk to the fringe this summer, how I'd turned things with my weight. It was a way of increasing the risk. And the tactic of frightening me it worked. I have a large Image on the stage, how I used to see and sometimes people can hardly believe it.
"I describe The Show , how about fear, fry-ups, and freedom, and I know that some people find it really inspiring. "
the beach-body Ready is a completely different Show with an all-female, hyper-dynamic cast of three.
Lizi Perry of the hull group, based in The Roaring girls quickly head off euphemisms like "plus Size ".
Martin J. Dixon tries to promote body positivity in his Show"We are happy of the identify the word" fat " in The Show and two of the three performers themselves as fat. Our company is about Theater, it's hard, as a feminist, and fun, and body Image seemed to be a major issue as many women think.
"With Facetune now such a thing, this is a Problem for men too, but the beach-body Ready is definitely drawn from The Personal experiences of Rachael Abbey, Sarah Penney and Jess Morley. "
Like most of the things on the edge, the whole Show is limited to 60 Minutes . Beach-body Ready, packs his hour with a sense of Humor and music, but also with sharp insights into how the people in terms of fat - in particular, female fat. Jess, the slim one of The Trio , but she also talks about body Image and her former addiction to The Gym is.
Lizi says: "We wanted to make something that was joyful and solemn, but also brutally honest. We do not pretend that everything is solved and that we love all of our body. But if we are talking to The Audience then can have to tell people their own stories, and you can see, we have opened a conversation. "
Tea . with milk The First Show in Edinburgh for the performing artists and writers Elisa Grace Lawrence and Niamh Callan. Elisa Grace says that The First inspiration for The Show came straight out of one of the Thames Valley Police video about consent in Relationships .
Katie Greenall wants to, and counteracts the negative stereotypes around obesityHowever, Niamh, how others talk in Edinburgh about body Image , it mentions the app Facetune as a major new influence On Women to look good, if you want a relationship at all. "Although we also say in The Show that if you want a specific type or shaving your legs, or whatever your decision is. Nobody will criticize you for that should. "
Director Nicole Acquah, says their attention to advertising has been drawn increasingly. "I think women are under constant pressure from ads to look, in a certain way. Even Young Girls look at these images, the modified Digital and influences. A few years ago it was not so intensive, and we wanted to say that on the stage. "
Martin J. Dixon is a 29-year-old comedian from London, has a solo Show on the Fringe as a Monster Gay. The Show is, above all, what is embarrassing to him about himself.
"it is a lot about body positivity, this is really an important thing. We are all used to that people are getting bigger, but I think people are tired of, say, how they look. So in The Show I say, we are our body, just like you and love you.
Michael Livesley brings his former self to his performances"We should all have, big lips, big butt and narrow waist. And men. visible abdominal muscles, which for Most People is pretty impossible So we can't look at a muffin top, and says, that's good, that's attractive?
"In the gay community at the centre, to be perfect, physically, I had to grow up very aware of. Most of us don't, ever so ideal, and it can feel food in the self-hatred of young gay boys. I want people to laugh, the jokes in my Show , but there are serious problems with the false images we are fed, especially online. "
Katie Greenall not hesitate to call your solo Show Fatty Fat Fat. "It's about my experiences in navigating The World in a fat body, with a lot of Humor. I think maybe this is the year, as Edinburgh the effect of the fat-acceptance shows a-movement: it is something that more and more attention in the mainstream.
"So I have 10 anecdotes from the age of five to 23, where I Am now. At each of these points in my relationship to my body changed because of the interaction of the people with him. And I weave, with moments where I hope The Audience will think, about fat acceptance in General.
"My Generation has a very complex relationship with her body Image . And as the performers on the fringes-especially the young-are, it is, of course, it's a great theme, you should now.
"We are constantly fed in the media, that fat people are lazy, and I wanted something to act on the stage, to the contrary. One thing that allows the card to fat people see themselves represented positively, which is rare.
"I know that some people you have seen, the title fatty fat fat, and you think, to see a kind of rip-roaring comedy fun of fat people.
"There are so many conversations we need to about all of these different marginalis documentation, not just fat. But Social Media is fuelling the obsession with looks. In an Instagram-heavy world, it is important that we have all these stories on the stage. "
