Washington Story

Muckraking newspaper columnist Gilbert Nunnally (Philip Ober) wants to ruin a young congressman from Massachusetts, so he assigns ambitious cub reporter Alice Kingsley (Patricia Neal) to dig up some dirt. She approaches the idealistic politician, Joseph Gresham (Van Johnson), and convinces him she is doing a puff piece for a women's magazine. He allows her to shadow him, and she snoops around for any sign of scandal or corruption. Finding neither, she begins to fall in love with her target.
