Sol Hurok (David Wayne) loves the arts and dreams of performing on the stage. Unfortunately for him, he can't act, sing or dance. With the support of his wife, Emma (Anne Bancroft), Sal turns his attention to his real talent, which is discovering and promoting the talent in others around him. Under his meticulous tutelage, some of best and brightest musicians of his time find success, including the ballerina Anna Pavlova and the opera singer Feodor Chaliapin (Ezio Pinza).
