In London, ex-reporter Curley Minter (Jimmy Hanley) recalls an article he wrote about a fire at an asylum -- a fire that may have led to the disappearance of one of the patients. At the same time, in a local boardinghouse, Mrs. Musgrave (Christine Silver) and her daughter (Constance Smith) rent a room to the mysterious Dr. Fell (Valentine Dyall).
