Rick Stein first visited California and Mexico in 1968 when he took a journey down the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco, through Big Sur, and into Mexico. Rick returns nearly fifty years later to retrace his steps, see how things have changed, how food has evolved, and to further explore the history and cultures of the west coast of North America. Beginning in San Francisco he tries famous dishes such as the hangtown fry and the oyster pancake, a leftover from the days of the California Gold Rush. Following his previous route, Stein passes through Steinbeck country, Los Angeles, and eats the best fish chilli he's ever had in San Diego.
