Passage du milieu

Passage du milieu

By the beginning of the 19th century, the Atlantic slave trade was a hugely profitable and deadly business. Thousands of Africans were loaded onto ships meant to carry only a few hundred people, and the ones who managed to survive the brutal ride were subject to even worse horrors once they reached America. One such journey is narrated here by the spirit of a deceased slave (Maka Kotto) who watches over the ships that traverse the dangerous ocean route known as the Middle Passage.
